Just been told if you go to your chemist for some calpol for your baby ask about the minor scheme if they do it & you get your calpol for free don’t know if you can get loads in one go or one at a time but handy to know. Especially if your baby gets poorly all the time saves a bit of change Midwifes and hospitals don’t tell you this you see 😂

Yes and it costs the NHS ++ money whereas if you have a child you should be able to pay out for paracetamol suspensions it doesn’t need to be calpol. Supermarket own brands and pharmacy own brands do the same job for less cash. Scheme should be scrapped

PinkDaydreams · 04/07/2019 15:09

This scheme has been pulled in some regions due to patients over using it (the scheme) and ‘stocking up’ for free.

You can do but it’s a huge stretch on the NHS and resources, it’s typically aimed for those who can’t afford calpol etc.

What @Grumpbum123 said. I see this information being shared around all the time, usually by the same people who moan about the state of the nhs and how people abuse it!

PinkDaydreams · 04/07/2019 15:12

Completely agree, it is over used unnecessarily by some people.

MustardScreams · 04/07/2019 15:13

Liquid paracetamol costs £2. Stop rinsing the NHS if you want to be able to continue using it, and if you would like your children to have safe, secure, free at point of use healthcare.

If you’ve got a couple of grand spare a month then a) you will be fine and can go private for everything and b) don’t need free fucking calpol.

QforCucumber · 04/07/2019 15:17

Or you could go to 24 hour Tesco and get their own brand for about £2.00

caughtinanet · 04/07/2019 15:57

Midwives maybe don't tell you but it gets shared on my Facebook just about every week.

I agree it's a drain on resources, if the cost of calpol is too much your child might need medical checks.

nomushrooms · 04/07/2019 20:27

@QforCucumber not disagreeing, but we don’t have a 24hr anything near us! Our nearest small towns only have smaller supermarkets and thus generally stock major brands.

Having said this, we make a trip to a larger town every couple of months and stock up on things like own brand Calpol, cheaper nappies etc.

Shelbybear · 04/07/2019 20:56

It was informed on my little girls notice for one her jags to go and get calpol.

I did but it was so much hassle that I don't bother with it. Certainly won't get loads of it as they ask what its for. In chemists here the pharmacist has to dispense it so it goes in a big queue and can take forever. Id rather pay the £3 and not wait 30mins.

Paigexx · 10/07/2019 22:23

Seriously you all need to behave, it’s handy to know for some people, I can bloody afford other brands but some people can’t that’s the whole point why I put this on here! Ffs 😂😂

Why would you use the scheme if you can afford to buy it? I see this as a safety net for parents without enough money so their kids do not suffer.
