Baby feeding every 2 - 3 hours

My 3 week old baby is feeding often, I'm feeding on demand and it's always between two and three hours between feeds.
He's on the hungry baby formula since last week following the advice of the HV and is having 5 ounces in a bottle. This seems to be more than enough in the bottle, I can never get it all in to him, he stops around 4 ounces.
When he's hungry the dummy won't satisfy him.
Is it likely that he'll start to go a bit longer between feeds? Or does anyone have any suggestions?
The nights are starting to catch up on me, especially when he's only waiting 2 hours as I'm only getting an hour sleep before he's awake again.

Hi Op that is perfectly normal they only have small tummies so that feed a lot durning the early months can your partner share the feeding with you? So that you can go to bed early to catch up on some much needed rest?

That's what me and my DH done I'd go to bed and he would stay up with our DC's for few hours and then we would swap it does get easier as soon as they are able to take more they go longer between feeds but I'd keep up with the demand feeding for now

2-3hrs is really normal at that age. It will start to stretch though. By 3/4mo it will probably be more like every 3hours

My DS is 5months and goes 3-4hrs in the day between feeds (though at night he's still at 2-3hrs...you just learn to deal with no sleep!)

2-3 hourly is normal at that age. I wouldn't give hungry milk either. Its harder to digest but has the same calories as first milk

It’s normal, especially so young. I do understand the exhaustion though. My 14-month old is still feeding every 2-3 hours through the night. I’m ebf though, so it’s comfort, as well as food

I thought the norm was for them to go 4 hours Shock that's what my first child did so kind of expected the same. I'll just keep feeding him as much as he wants then Smile
@2beautifulbabs
Dh works away during the week so he's not there to do any of the feeds, looking forward to Friday night when I can try and catch up a bit!

Mine didn't go to 4 hourly until around 4 months. Its certainly not the norm at 3 weeks old

I was just very lucky then the last time and didn't even realise it!

Mine was every 2 hours during the day for months! Luckily he slept for decent stretches at nighttime. He's never gone 4 hours between food/milk in the day time!

2-3 hours is quite normal. I don’t think either of mine went to 4 hours until closer to 12 weeks (one ff and the other bf). At 3 weeks, my ff one would have had 2-3 oz max. I don’t think you need to be feeding hungry baby milk as it doesn’t sound like you have anything but a normal growing baby.

If you have a partner, they can be sharing the nights so you can each get 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep if you each take part of the night. Even when I was bf, my dh would do 8pm-1am (I’d have to do one feed in the middle), but I got at least 4 hours of sleep ish and then anything else between 1-6am was a bonus.
