Help! DS doesn't listen to me anymore

I have a very good relationship with DS and he's always been pretty well behaved but recently I have to tell him 20 times to do anything. It's starting to get me down. He's just turned 8.

What are your best solutions? I've tried both rewarding good behaviour and punishing poor behaviour with extra/reduced screen time etc but it has little impact.

He's quite remorseful when he realises how frustrating it is and then goes right back to ignoring me!

Clear, consistent, unemotional penalties.

My ds gets his pocket money on a Saturday only when he has put his dirty clothes in the laundry bag.
Refusal to do homework results in no tv or Nintendo until it is done, or at least 1 hour of work done.
Being rude to me results in a 15 minutes period with no electronics. Second time is 30 minutes.
And no dessert until he eats his vegetables.

For the timed ones I have a loud kitchen timer. He also gets a reward when he turns a tantrum around and does his homework -usually an ice pop.

Mostly it works, sometimes it takes a while. But don’t rise, don’t be provoked. He’s just pushing boundaries. Even if it is infuriating Smile

We use ourpact to remove the distraction of screens. Makes hearing easier.

Otherwise what is it you're asking?
