Toddler jealous of newborn

I'm sure it's perfectly normal but I just don't know how to handle it. My 2.5 yo is jealous of my 3 mo. Before she was always nice to him but just angry at me but now she's getting worse. When I try to put him down to settle him for naps she comes shouting that she wants him so he can't sleep. Today she even tried to hit him while I held him . She hates me feeding him. How can I stop this? I have a stair gate on the door to the room he sleeps in but she can still open it and shout. I just end up shouting at her

I know it’s a difficult situation for you but don’t shout at her. As long as the baby is safe, clean, and fed, leave him and prioritise your daughter because she is clearly seeking attention and feeling pushed out. Making her realise she is still loved and a top priority is the quickest way to stop this kind of behaviour.

Normal, but very tough. What do you do when you feed? Can you read stories, get the playdoh out? Stick cartoons on? Try and talk about how awesome she is when you’re talking to baby. Get her to join in with nappy changes etc. Encourage her to try and make baby smile. Use language that groups them together ‘oh you two are so naughty!’ Etc etc. Deal with bad behaviour swiftly and firmly but immediately move on and distract with something else. Basically don’t engage and just ride it out, it will naturally improve with time.

I'm having similar at the moment. DS1 is just turned 3 and DS2 is 4.5 months. DS1 is mostly full of love for the baby wants to kiss him, lick his face and hold him, but all this love quickly turns to an swipe or a hit or a thrown toy to the head. I don't have any answers but what I'm trying at the moment making sure I give DS1 1-1 time at the weekend. Usually just for one hour as the baby is breastfed so I can't be away from him for long. So far me an DS1 s mummy an son dates have consisted of park trips, dog walks an cafe for coffee an cake.

She dominates my time. I have to play with her all day. I try to play with the baby at same time and it's hard. The baby gets much less attention than her!
