How can I make baby's room darker?

Having such a problem getting 5 month old DS to sleep at night. Our house is so bright which doesn't help. And bedroom is south west facing so it doesn't really get dark until 10pm.

It's a rented flat with the biggest windows in. Already getting sunshade blinds for lounge which are costing a bomb... what can I do in the bedroom which isn't new blinds or curtains? Does anyone have nifty things they've used... stick on window things? I dunno - anything to make it darker !

Help!

Gro blinds or cheaper equivalent! They stick on and are really effective.

looks really tacky but if you need a fast and simple solution then buy a roll of black paper and just stick it to the window in the nights

Black bun bags while you wait for blinds to turn up!!

Tin foil stuck on the windows with masking tape. It does make you look like you're growing cannabis but it also blocks the light a treat.

Excellent that's exactly what I need! I knew you wouldn't let me down. I have 3 huge windows though !! I wonder how much light would be blocked if I buy two?

If you wet the window you can stick tinfoil to it. It looks awful, but it totally blocks the light.

We have a gro anywhere blind, I then fitted command strips in between the suckers and fastened them on too so it lets absolutely nothing through. Works well & was about £20 ish. (Often appear on Facebook marketplace etc for a fair bit less if you wanted to try it)

We have this:

easynight portable travel blackout blind new improved (Extra Large) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B014L4ZNNE/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_Kz7gDbB21Q4EH

Dampen window, stick tin foil to it.
Make sure you take it down each morning so the heat from the sun doesn't crack the window.

WineIsMyCarb · 02/07/2019 20:56

For a reusable solution line your curtains with tin foil, buy a gro blind and get some masking tape to stick the sides of the curtains to the wall so light doesn't come through the edges.

moreismore · 02/07/2019 20:59

I know you don’t want new curtains but it’s really easy and cheap to make removable blackout curtains that attach to your current ones. Just google and have a look on eBay for the fabric😜

Blackout Gro Blind was 20 quid so I've got that to try.

It's so bright... anything would help!

Thanks MN !

Blind in a box. www.blindsinabox.co.uk/

Used these when we had floor to ceiling windows across a whole room ‘wall’ - we are film fans so needed something that would black out and these are brilliant.

Ikea do blackout stick on blinds for £5.50 each - they're amazing!

Have a look on Amazon at black out window film. It really does the trick of stopping any light getting through and waking little people horrendously early!

Great suggestions thank you!
