How often do Newborns poop and other questions?! New mum HELP

Hiii,
My baby boy is now just over 2 weeks old, we've discovered in the past few days he suffers from colic, which infacol has helped sort. However his "pooping" has really slowed up, hes going once a day, and currently the last time he went was yesterday morning. Looking online there is a lot of contradictory information. Since having the infacol, when he is straining or looking like hes pushing for a poo, he isn't crying or in pain. It was our first day at home together just me and him, its now just gone 4pm and we've had 3 wet nappies but no poop....he must of seen me type, finally pooped, was dark yellow and sweet smelling. Any advice? Any range of frequency?
(I panicked a couple of days ago before infacol and gave him warm water with sugar which made him go! I am also a bit constipated does this have any relation to it? In the meantime I have drank litres and litres of water to help)

Also bit of TMI, I had a forceps and had to be cut delivery (all stitches have now dissolved and healed great) how long did it take for ladies who've had the same, to have sex? I just cant believe for someone whos never really had a sex drive let alone pregnant, that I could want it as much as i do now lol. Blush

Hi, congratulations, I can't help much with the colic/infacol but my little one is 4 weeks old and only poos once a day. At 2 weeks old he would go more than 24 hours, maybe 36 hours or so. The visiting midwife and the doctors at the hospital were not concerned about it, they said some babies just store it up for longer... The yellow colour is normal. I would still ask your midwife/health visitor/gp though, just to be sure. Are you breast feeding?

I found my DS went for a poo either multiple times a day or not for 3-4 days! I wouldn't panic, constipation is do with the actual poo rather than how often they go.

I guess it's up to you re sex - I think they advise you to be fully healed and lochia to have finished first. Do make sure you've got birth control sorted, women can be very fertile after giving birth.

Sorry yes duh should of mentioned that, yes I am breastfeeding. Two more questions though 😂 how do people feel about newborns and dummies? My son is a very hungry baby and often uses the nipples just for comfort annoyingly. Also combination feeding? Same reason as above, my boobies could do with a break!!!

As others have said some babies go multiple times per day, others go once or twice per week or sometimes less. Around the two week mark I think mine was pooing daily but it trailed off around 6 weeks. As long as the poo is sweet smelling and a yellow/orangey tinge sometimes with tomato like seeds in then it's ok. It's not really the amount of times baby goes, more the consistency. If you're breast feeding it will probs be quite runny too.

With regards to everything else it depends how you and your partner (if there is one) feel. We introduced a dummy around week 3 for similar reasons and didn't think anything of it (I had dummies) but other people think you're killing your child. He went off then on his own accord around week 10 though (he's nearly 18 weeks now) and hasn't really touched them since. We are also combi feeding (mostly breast with one formula bottle and one breast milk bottle a day) as that works for us. Again, you've just got to do what works and don't get caught up on the right/wrong as there isn't one. From our NCT babies ours is the only one who will happily switch between breast/bottle/formula and we introduced bottles at week 2 with formula around the same time as the dummy. People who did it later or didn't do it consistently (we do it for the same feed each day) have had A LOT of issues with 3-4 month baby rejecting bottles so in hindsight we did it "right" by giving him bottles early.

Also I've found the internet to be great but it will also tell you that your baby is going to die in any situation so take it all with a pinch of salt... Which I appreciate is difficult to do when you're 2 weeks in and exhausted!!

Oh and apparently they have their first growth spurt just before two weeks and mine cluster fed for hours and hours so what you've described is completely normal. By doing the bottles it also meant that I could get a 3-4 hour stint of sleep between 8-midnight as husband had him, then I did the night shift while husband slept as we didn't want to disrupt his sleeping pattern too much as he was going back to work after 3 weeks.

This is normal, breastfed babies tend to do about one poo per day of life in the first week and then they can poo anything from once a week to once per feed - I have had one of each :o
