Tummy button worry?

Ruby3105 · 28/06/2019 13:59

My little one lost his umbilical cord at 2 weeks and since then his tummy button has continued to weep a little bit each day, there is always some discharge on the inside of his top. I have been keeping it clean with a bit of cotton wool and cooled boiled water from the kettle. There is no redness, heat, swelling, or smell but this morning it looked like there was some pus which came out. Is this normal or should he see a gp/hv?

My LO cord fell off at 2days old as the midwife have clamped it too tight!/close. He ended up with an infection and the main indicators were it was very pussy/weepy and surrounding area was quite red! I would get LO seen if you're worried at all, all it takes is an antibiotic cream for a few days! (discliamer) I have no idea how it should look if not infected, so it could be perfectly normal!

I can't quite remember but something similar happened to my daughter and the gp asked me to get something from the pharmacy.... It looked like a pen. Anyway he dabbed it on and it turned it a kind of grey white and after that it was fine.

He lost it at 2 weeks, but how long has it now been? If you're worried about our then definitely get in touch with your HV.

Sorry, should have said, he's 4 weeks now. Probably being stupid but wasn't sure whether it was ok to just call up the health visitor or not... She did write down her mobile number but I'm not sure how the system works!

You can find local heath visitor clinics. It's the same place you go for your weigh in. Do you know where you need to go for that? In my are we have about 4 clinic a week we can go to in a 10 mile radius but you can go anywhere even 100 miles away as long as you take your red book

SnowdropFox · 28/06/2019 18:16

Depends where you are how your HV works. In our area we can call and arrange to drop in and see ours as there are no clinics.

I'll try and find out, thanks all for helping
