Terry square comments.

Any other mums find that using terry squares these days attracts lots of comments from other mums ?

I've lost track of the number of (usually positive) comments I've received from total strangers when they see my son in a terry square

Admittedly he is 4 and I do still put a large toddler square when we go out so invariably the terry does show either over trouser waist bands or sometimes through the leg opening of shorts ! but I'm amazed at the number of mums who express an interest.

One mum couldnt believe anyone still used pins yesterday when she happened to walk in to the changing room at a local department store while I was halfway through putting a clean nappy on him

Hi, I'm using cloth on my 6 month old. I use quite a lot of terries when we're at home although I tend to use pocket napppies when out & about. I love terries as they are so quick to dry. I started with terries when my son's skin was a bit sore - turns out he doesn't like elastic! I never use pins though - I have nappy nippas! Most of the comments I get about using washables are along the line of "I really admire you but you must be mad!...all that washing" etc! I wouldn't change it though!

I use terries in that bit between just before dinner and bed (he always seems to need changing at 5pm!) - my normal daytime nappies seem a waste then.

I don't use them full time as I have never mastered neat folding!!!

My other dinner nappy is a disana tie on one - they aren't absorbant enough for normal use, but an hour or so before bed they are fine and look sooo cute.

i had lots of odd comments like why are you using them, why bother blah blah blah.but we are happy

Flame - we have dinner nappies here too! often without at wrap so cute, but risky!

toastee - i used terries a lot until dd could fit into my tots size 2 (only had a limited supply of size ones) and I got on well with them but definately a fan of the nappy nippa...know lots of people who use cloth, but none who use pins.

FlameParakeet · 26/07/2007 19:50

Yup - no wrap with dinner nappies

tassisssss · 26/07/2007 19:50

and they're no better for the environment you know!!

the other nice thing about terries is that you can get your mum to show you folds (and you can be very very impressed if you dad knows any!)

FlameParakeet · 26/07/2007 19:51

My mum only knows kite fold - she is fascinated by all these "fancy new origami folds"

They are terrible for the environment - d'ya know there was this report and that said....

tassisssss · 26/07/2007 19:54

yeah same here, mum showed me the kite and i showed her my lovely one for newborns (absolutely no idea what it was called but she was impressed!)

FlameParakeet · 26/07/2007 19:55

So, how do you make them neat? I always end up with gapey leg holes

tassisssss · 26/07/2007 19:58

mine were neat but my fold only worked until she was about 8 months (thankfully tots 2 started fitting soon after that).

i used to fold up the side bits before pulling them across dd's tummy...does that make any sense? also meant nappy didn't come down to her knees.
