Baby cutlery

Baby is 10.5 months old and aside from spoon fed porridge and the odd fruit pouch baby has fed themselves since 6 months old - but only uses her hands.

She's quite the spoon refuser and would prefer to eat a bowl of rice grain by grain with her hands... so sometimes meal options are restricted (curry for example)

At which age did you introduce cutlery? We softly followed BLW but 'loaded spoons' were just immediately launched across our brand new white kitchen) and as parents DH wanted traditional weaning and I wanted strict BLW so as a compromise all very soft foods - stew / porridge etc are spoon fed and I'd say 95% of her diet she eats with her hands)

When shall we brave the inevitable spoon and fork chucking :))

Ps before anyone attacks the comment about white kitchen is lighthearted - we fully accept the mess that children bring but our baby and pre loaded spoons caused mass frustration for all involved!

I can’t remember but DD would eat a yoghurt with a spoon by herself at 11 months.

DS has used a loaded spoon pretty well since 11 months... he can now load and feed himself with a fork and spoon aged 14 months

Yoghurts are good to start with because they can just dip, they don’t have to have any scooping skills lol

My friend’s son didn’t use cutlery until he was about 18 months, my daughter is 7 months and no where near using her own spoon

Started at about 12 months with a spoon. Still uses his hands for most foods as it's quicker!
