12 month old going to nursery, need some advice please

Hi

I need to put my 12 month old into nursery 1 and a half days a week because I don’t have any family around me and have to work.

Is it best for my son if I put him in 2 consecutive days or does he need a break between days?

Thank you

I would say two consecutive days but then mine were in for 4 days from 12 months so i am not sure what i base that on!

What would work best for you in terms of work?

No advice sorry but my DD will be going 2 days per week at 10 months old in a few months and we are putting her in nursery 2 consecutive days (Weds & Thurs) so also interested to hear people’s views!

My son was in five days a week, 6:45 - 4:30pm, from five months old. I had to work too.

I’d say do whatever works best for your schedule. I doubt it’ll make much difference either way.

I would vote consecutive days, it's better for them IMO to be able to get used to something

Id agree with consecutive days. My LO is going in two days at the moment (not yet a year old). I feel like she gets into the swing of things by the end of day 1 so breaking it up would be counterproductive.

Kids are resilient. Do what works best for you.

I don’t think it matters. DD does three days. With a break in between and it’s been fine. I like knowing that I don’t have too many days away from her in one go.

When we were doing half days it was a bit of a struggle though because she couldn’t get into a proper routine, but full days have been much better.

My son does two days a week with one day in between, so not consecutive. It wasn’t really planned this way deliberately - it’s just how it worked out with my work pattern and other childcare. The day in between he is with me. It actually works out very well as he gets quite tired at nursery and we can have a chilled day together in between, and it certainly hasn’t stopped him settling quickly and enjoying nursery. However, it’s not like we have tried it with consecutive days, and there is a huge difference between how children in general respond and how your child in particular will respond, so it may be that consecutive days work better for your child and your family. But don’t assume that it would necessarily be a problem to have a break in between days if that’s what you need to do

It really won’t matter. I would do whatever works best with your work schedule and your nursery’s availability.
