Right well I finally got around to doing a lanolin patch test on dd ( i thought she might be allergic cos everyone in my family is except me) and it was fine so i got some wool wraps from nappy lady classifieds. But the thing is...I don't have a clue what to do with them! How often should i wash them? Do I need to use wool shampoo or delicate detergent or just non bio? Do they need to be lanolised every time i wash them? How do I lanolise them anyway?! Where can i buy the best value stuff to lanolise them with? Are they like fleece in that they will wick under pressure eg in car seat? Phew!

I use baby shampoo to wash them with - I wash them if they get soiled, or when they start retaining a smell after airing all day. Depending on which wraps you have bought, lay them flat against the washing machine drum, and wash on a wool cycle - they should be fine.

www.underthegooseberrybush.co.uk is about best for solid lanolin (unless you have some lanisoh cream left over at all).

Put about a teaspoon of lanolin in with a squirt of baby shampoo and melt with very hot water (I use a dolmio jar so I can shake it), then mix with cold water so it is about 30c and enough to cover the wrap.

Soak overnight, then dry away from direct heat & sunlight (you can roll it in a towel to get some of the wetness out).

Yes, they will wick under pressure, but not as quickly as fleece as they absorb first, and then wick.

Hmmm, well i gave it a go with some lanisoh but I'm not sure it has been successful! The lanisoh seemed to congeal a bit as the water cooled and the wraps feel VERY greasy. Is this normal? Do they feel less greasy as they dry?

If you have a bit too much lanolin then they can feel greasy - they are fine after the first wear, and your DD will have lovely soft skin where the wrap touches

They are well waterproofed if they are greasy.

It occured to me afterwards the previous owner may have lanolised them which could be why they are greasy after i have done it!
I love them so far! I didn't really believe the smell would come out after airing but it really does! And best of all they are higher in the rise than my other wraps so completely cover the heavily boosted night nappy without gaping at the waistband-so no more waistband leaks-hooray!
Have a stacinator one which i love, a bumpy which is good but feels a little itchier to me and some wooly long legs which i havent used yet as dd is just in pj top at night at the moment-it is the wooly long legs that feel greasiest but I'm thinking that could also be down to the different knit?

Yup, it could be that.

I loooove wool. My faves are my seahorse slacks - they are soooo soft and a great fit.
