5 year old

Recently I have noticed my 5 year old is struggling to manage his anger, initially just shouting or screaming when he was angry, which was dealt with by suggesting methods of helping him to manage this anger. Removing him from situations where needed.

Today, at school drop off a ball was snatched off him. He was unable to get it back and this culminated in his physically lashing out at 3 different children in his class. I am mortified and upset, he’s never displayed any physical violence before other than hitting his younger brother once or twice which was always promptly dealt with with a consequence.

He has never been hit, or had any violence in his presence or towards him.

I want to nip this in the bud, before it becomes a more serious issue. I unfortunately wasn’t at drop off, it was the before school club who informed me, and as such I haven’t been able to speak to my son or discipline him for this. But I have no idea how to do it.

My husband is leaving work early rather than him attend his after school club so he can ensure he apologises to the children involved. I’m thinking maybe of removing his football nets and footballs as a consequence but not sure if that will help at all.

Any advice greatly received!

Why was the ball snatched from him? Are you sure he isn’t being bullied? In that situation my advice for him would be not to get caught by a teacher when he’s lashing out.

No definitely not being bullied. Older boys took the ball away from the reception children. Not specifically targeting my son, although he was holding it.

The three children he lashed out at were his friends who he was playing with, not the Phil’s who took the ball. Just those who were in the closest proximity to him.
