Our 4 month old suffers terribly from trapped wind. It troubles her at night particularly... During the day I wind her after every feed but she’s not much of a burper (and has reflux). We try bicycle legs and a bit of tummy massage, warm baths... Any advice? She is exclusively breastfed.

On her belly with a little cushion under (so her heads up to avoid reflux issues) and encourage a fair bit of tummy time.

I also was desperate so tried baby yoga (can YouTube videos- open them/shut them is a good move)

Sometimes you can feel which side it's on, you can try and walk it out gently.

Try standing upright with her close to your chest and keep her upright too. Give her a slight jiggle and Pat and walk around the room for a bit.

If shell accept a bottle, try some cool boiled water.

Mines was a little demon with wind 😂😂 only thing that helped was some things above and getting bigger.

*when I say keep her upright. I like like she is straight like a plank. Should encourage the wind to travel up.

I used to get wind out of DD accidentally when trying to burp her, if you shift them up a bit so their belly is more on your shoulder than when trying to burp, then rub/pat/jiggle it tends to come out. I never managed to get a single burp out of baby dd, but her farting was legendary Grin

Gripe water. Although are you sure it's wind and not the reflux? I always found it much worse at night when they were lying down.

Mine was very sensitive to what I ate so orange juice and curry was out
Gripe water can be useful, infacol is good.
Standing up with her upright facing you and rub her back.
I used to sit mine in a baby walker to keep him upright when I was too knackered to stand up any more. (Only for 10 mins or so but it did the trick)

Sitting upright on your lap rock them back and forth so they are bending over their thighs a bit. A nurse showed me that in the hospital with DC1 and I still use it for all of us 20 years on (though not with them on my lap but the rocking can help).

Sit them upright on your knee facing you, then kind of roll them in circles from the waist.

Although, are you sure it’s wind? It does get used as a bit of a catch-all explanation for ‘baby won’t settle’. I spent many wasted hours trying to burp DC1 who really didn’t need burping, because everyone I knew said “ah that’s wind, that is” every time she moved!

Our LO suffered terribly with wind/reflux. Turned out he had a CMPA diganoised at 3.5 months! Milk from the doctor and not a problem since. Gripe water helped alot and tummy time help get wind out of her!

Severe reflux and cmpa baby here, also with major wind issues.

We wind twice during a feed and once after (if we can keep him awake). We start upright over the shoulder to get the milk settled with rubbing motions near the top of the back (apparently tapping reflux babies brings up acid?), then lay him down for a minute and bicycle legs, then sat upright with his head rested on a hand, again circular back rub motions. Then back to the shoulder. Sometimes we have to do 3 rounds of this to get the burp out.

Occasionally when it's really stuck, I kay him face down over my legs, a bit like tiger in the tree, and that helps. It's the moving between position that seems to help the most.

As others have said, it might not be wind alone. Our LO struggled terribly at night before we moved to cmpa formula and better reflux meds. It was reflux pain as well as wind.
