Should I be trying to get my 5 week old into a routine?!

Days and nights are not set in any way. Should I be trying?

No! There's no point until they're at least 3 months IMO.

No far too young, wait until at least 12 weeks

Di11y · 18/06/2019 18:21

does your lo know the difference between day and night? if yes then you're set so far, if not, then make sure days are noisy and bright, open the curtains early etc, nights quietish and dark (from say 9/10pm).

routine comes later, at least 8-12 weeks.

NHS recommendation is to wait until 8 weeks if that helps Smile

I think after three months they sort of get themselves into a bit of a routine.

No point trying before then.

Just a few mummy shamers out there made me worry Confused

I’ll go against the grain and say we started a routine when DS was about 7 weeks.

Nothing exciting just bath, feed and bed at around 7pm. Daytime we just go with the flow. He’s 4 months now and consistently asleep for 6.30/7 every night and sleeps really well.

A routine is just a consistent set of actions done in the same order. Won’t do him any harm.

MrsMaow · 18/06/2019 20:10

Were just sort of falling into a routine now at 7 months, still goes completely out the window some days though. Really she does what she want, when she wants, just at the moment most days that’s at roughly the same time.

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 18/06/2019 20:12

No. I would try and get your little one in the light during the day, this can be just putting the Moses basket in front of a window (but not if the sun is blazing through) and keep night times dark and quiet.

Thesearmsofmine · 18/06/2019 20:14

Nope, you will probably fall into a natural routine of sorts soon enough anyway.

mindutopia · 18/06/2019 21:08

No, there's no point. They come into their own routine, but it's very early days. Just make sure you are eating enough and brushing your teeth and having a bath or shower and getting a break so you can sleep. That's all that really matters still.
