Best classes for newborn and toddler?

DD will be just over 2 when DC2 arrives. We do a variety of classes now but they're all very much for toddlers alone. I've only come across one class which would accommodate both children (Hartbeeps). Can anyone recommend any groups/classes which I could take both children to? I'll have both children 2 days a week during maternity leave (DD is at nursery & DH works compressed hours to cover the other days) & would like to find some activities I can do with both, especially in the colder autumn weather! Thanks!

I do music bugs with two children, they do a baby class, a toddler/preschool class and a mixed age class for siblings of different ages.

Just choose class for toddler for now and take newborn, the newborn wont need a class will they.

What about finding just an ordinary parent and toddler group?

@Hollowvictory it isn't suitable to take a newborn to a lot of toddler classes which is why I asked. I've already been told by several of our classes that they can not accommodate a younger baby. The buggies have to stay outside the room which the class takes place in.

@NannyR thank you! I've just seen there's one nearby Smile

We love JoJingles-music/singing/instruments/dancing which was free until DS was 5 months old and TinyTalk -baby signing.

chilledteacher · 15/06/2019 22:20

There are toddlers and babies in both these groups

AuntGinny · 15/06/2019 22:26

This is where baby wearing comes in handy!

NannyR · 15/06/2019 22:34

I've taken children to lots of different groups and classes over the years and there are always parents and carers with small babies as well as toddlers attending, you can't always take a pram into the room but you can usually take a carseat or carry the baby or have them in a sling. I

Libraries usually do a story and rhyme session that's good for different ages, the one we went to coincided with the baby's morning feed so I could feed her whilst the toddler was occupied.

Church run playgroups are usually very welcoming, the type that are run by older parishioners in the church hall.

@AuntGinny unfortunately I can't use a baby carrier so I rely on the buggy Sad I imagine it'd be a lot easier using a sling!

@NannyR oh that's a very good idea with the library! I remember looking at a few which clashed with DD's other classes but will look into them again now we'll have to stop those classes anyway.

My tiny talk class was great. It was the babies class but there were older siblings. I imagine it will be ok the other way round.

I’ve not been to a toddler class/group where small babies aren’t welcome - slightly different when the baby is mobile, but usually not a problem when they’re small.

We tended to do drop-ins like rhyme times at libraries, stay-and-play sessions or any other classes where we didn’t have to commit to block-booking. It’s nice sometimes to not have the stress of trying to leave the house to a schedule.

AuntGinny · 16/06/2019 17:32

@sugarsprinklesrainbowdrops

It is easier in a lot of ways but I do get very hot and bothered and I can't do much with toddler on my lap as baby is in the way! It's frustrating when baby is asleep in the buggy and I have to move him

hopefulhalf · 16/06/2019 17:35

I was going to say rhyme time at the library. Also our leisure centre had a creche so I could swim with DC1and leave baby there.
