My little boy who is 16 months was vomiting a couple of weeks ago and had a runny nose. Doctors were content that as long as he was fine in himself, eating and pooing fine he would be fine. In time the vomiting stopped.

Yesterday and today he has had a runny nose, slight cough and tonight has woken up, coughed lots and then vomit. Not to be grim, but the sick was mainly milk and snot.

Does anyone elses little one vomit when they have a runny nose?

Yes, when they're too young to blow their nose and get rid of the snot they sniff and swallow it instead. Nature's way of getting rid of it is vomit.
You can help by getting a nasal aspirator to suck the snot out of their nose.

Yes, it does happen because mucus goes down into the stomach.

Yep some kids do, DS2 still does it when he has a really bad cold and he's now 3
11yo DS1 has only properly vomited once in his life so it was a shock that DS2 does it so much.
The sick is quite mucusy which shows why it's coming up.

Oh thank you for all your replies, very reassuring!!!
Aside from a nasal aspirator is there anything I can do to keep the mucus up and not going down into his chest?

My dd does this every time she has a cold. I try and prop her up to sleep which I think helps. Otherwise just snuffle balm (baby vics) and calpol x

My DD would also be sick in the middle of the night when teething.

Hi all update, as he hates the nasal aspirator I tried to buy a Vicks room plug in on my weekly shop yesterday but Asda only had the refills. I bought some vapour rub and slathered it on his chest last night, I also did the rub on feet with socks on (just incase it works) and he was alot better!! Thank you so much for the reassurance x

And if anyone wants a tip for getting rid of the vomit if it goes on carpet - Dr Beckman Stain remover, it comes in a bottle with a brush/sponge on the top, works WONDERS. even on a cream carpet and its only around £3.50

As pps say it's completely normal. I normally turn my bathroom into a steam room by putting vapour bath in a full ,hot sink and letting my son play in the bath for as long as possible.

At 18 months hes handling his colds much better.

I hope he feels better soon.
