cinema and pizza hut for lunch?

Babyannabel · 15/09/2004 11:43

Are you far from Harewood? If not then how about a trip to the Bird Garden with picnic and then a mad play at the playground? I find that a lot of parents have cards to get in free and there are often offers in the local papers for discounts.

I would spend the money on the going out bit - cinema, as coddy suggests, or bowling ?
And then save money by doing the food bit at home when you get back. Pizzas at home will cost a great deal less than in a pizza place. Add a few biscuits, crisps and a birthday cake. Sorted !

well 'they' say that the best number of guests for a children's party is one more than the birthday child's age so can you stretch to 8 guests perhaps?
Do you, or does someone you know, have a big tent? As a child, one fo the best parties I went to was held in a tent in the garden, we have a little bonfire (didn't have BBQs backthen) and toasted buns and chocolate marshmallow banana cakes on the fire.
We all wore our wellies and rain macs, were allowed to get as dirty as we liked as we were all int eh garden. We had plant pots and seeds and soil etc to do some gardening, and a book I dseem to remember about different types of leaves and i think we were taken for a walk along the road to see what elaves we could find on the floor.
I'm obviously not 7 anymore and times have changed greatly so this might totally not appeal to a girly pink daughter but I remember it being fantastic.

Great, I'm sure they'll be willing to travel to York - think this is the same company that came to our local village hall

Have done an Artyparty myself for about 8 kids at home - bought stuff from BakerRoss (www.bakerross.co.uk) also did a cooking party - sent out invites attached to wooden spoons, printed out a couple of recipes, made aprons from pvc fabric as going home presents, we made cakes, biscuits and canapes for the adults to eat when they came to the "cafe" to collect. And no, it didn't just work for girls. Big tents are a godsend - beach party in our garden this weekend whether it rains or not - bbq, paddling pool for games and sand for hidden treasure - who says 10 year olds are sophisticated all the time!
Mermaids also worked well - got out all the xmas lights, bought some cheap treasure chest shaped boxes they decorated from Ikea and lined ceilings with net.
