Reassure re lack of babbling!

My DD2 is coming up for 8 months old. She isn't babbling at all, no consonant sounds, just squeaks and different vowel sounds, plus different types of crying. Otherwise she does seem to communicate well, is very smiley and loves playing peek a boo with his sister.

I just remember that her sister was much more advanced at this stage, and it's impossible not to compare. I spoke to the health visitor today who said they wouldn't generally do anything until the 9-12month development check. We both agreed she doesn't seem to have any issue with her hearing.

I would be very grateful if anyone has any positive stories of being in a similar situation, but their child is now developing well?

Sorry OP no advice but I am following because my boy is nearly 10 months and he doesn't make many sounds still. Lots of vowels and the odd "B" sound but not much. He isn't a very talkative boy. I am hoping someone tells us this isn't anything to worry about!

Mine was the same. She's now 16 months and never shuts up!

DS never babbled. He was at the lower end of the normal range for speech, 5 words at 18 months, started talking more once he was two, then in mostly grammatically correct sentences, no 'me do it'. He's 13 now and no issues.

My second didn't really babble, just growls, grunts and squeals - she maybe said dadadada and mamamama a handful of times but nothing more until recently, she wasn't waving or clapping hands by her 9 mo check but there was clearly nothing wrong with hearing etc.
She's now just over one and says "hiya", "yes", "ta" and shakes her head no. She waves and makes sounds like "night night" for bed. She's always been more physical, standing unaided early, trying to walk unaided from 9 months (not managing it til just before her 1st birthday but got wicked fast with her push walker)

By comparison my eldest was chattering away and by 9 months had five or six words (hiya, dog, bye, yes, mama, ta - in the context of giving and receiving objects) and basically hasn't shut up since - you can have an entire conversation with her now at 2.5 (covering what she did at nursery, feelings etc) but didn't confidently walk unaided til she was 14 months despite standing and cruising from 7 months.

I think they all have their own strengths and pursue areas that interest them I wouldn't worry just yet.

DD never babbled. Raised concerns with the health visitor at her 12 month review but as she'd occasionally say a random sound they just wanted to wait it out. By her next review at 2 years 4 months she was speaking in 8 word sentences! Just keep chatting away with them and it'll probably work out, but keep in touch with HV in case you do need a SALT referral
