We started at 5.5 months as he was a milk monster and didn’t sleep well. We thought he was maybe just hungry. We were wrong Grin he didn’t really take to it until well after 6 months.

I started on veg purees only at 4 and a half months.

She was so ready. She was really interested in food, wanted to be with us when we were eating kept trying to steal food. She was also sitting up and had good hand to mouth control.

Every baby is different but as close to 6 months as you can get is the current NHS guidelines.

16 weeks! sad that is far, far too young.
No it isnt, there is no evidence whatsoever that weaning that early is harmful. In fact recent studies ,(EAT)were introducing foods at 12 weeks. They wouldn't have got the go ahead if it was known to be harmful.

Jist starting now...5 and half months.

EAT study-

25 weeks. We ended up doing BLW and it's brilliant - he eats everything we do and I don't have to sit there feeding him! We started off with bits of fruit and veg and then started giving him small portions of our meals. He's a big boy who was drinking a lot of milk but was perfectly happy on that.

Weaning nappies are grim so I was happy to leave those for as long as possible. Food made zero impact on sleep, I'd say it made it worse in our case!

dd1 (15) 6 months.
dd2 (10) 6 months.

Started at six months. Stocked up on a range of different jars for savoury and desserts. Some they loved better than others but they had good appetites and enjoyed their food.

6 months and made my own food. DH mum tried to make me give DD rusks in a bottle at 6 weeks 🤦🏻‍♀️ soon realised why poor DH has such a bad stomach 🤨 xx

Big babies and needed food from about four months. First baby I made all the food (sweet potato the base for much of it) but second had jars. Think I started on mushed up banana (which will stain by the way).

4.5 months. There is some reasonable evidence that it is better to expose them to allergens earlier than 6mo. That said, I don't think it's "bad" to wait till 6mo either.

Kungfupanda67 · 08/06/2019 13:24

We now know that their digestive system isn't mature enough for solids < 6 months so you run the risk of introducing allergies if you wean earlier.

There’s no evidence that this is the case at all, the evidence shows some time between 4-6 months and that before 17 weeks could be harmful, but the thinking was that when the guidelines were 4 months people were weaning at 3 months, now the guidelines are 6 months most people will wait until after 4 months.

There’s lots of research into allergies and they have found that babies introduced to allergens before 6 months are less likely to develop an allergy.

HJWT · 08/06/2019 14:21

I think a lot of people make it up as they go along hun 😜 take your HV advise and wait till 6 months unless they suggest otherwise, why would you want the hassle and food poo before then anyway 😬😂

HarrietM87 · 08/06/2019 14:26

Baby sat totally unaided at 4.5 months and had the other signs at 5 months, was literally reaching out trying to grab food and eat it from just 5 months. I tried to hold off as was following the guidelines but it was ridiculous. Officially started weaning (blw) at just over 5 months. He’s a fantastic eater now at 14 months and always has been. Terrible sleeper though and weaning made no difference!
