16 week old suddenly become restless & crying

My DD has been such a happy baby up until this past week. She suddenly has outbursts of tears that me and my partner can’t control.

She’ll cry until she’s red in the face and nothing comes out anymore. It’s very frightening. We’ve never had an issue before this and if she does whine we always can console her. Especially me.

I thought maybe teething ? But I don’t know how to confirm this. I’ve recently changed her formula to as she has reflux so not sure whether it’s this? ( was on lactose free but now on anti reflux, both SMA)

Someone also said it could be something called sleep regression? But I’ve never heard of this before ? Or maybe a growth spurt.

She sleeps very well from 8/9pm till about 3am where she does become restless but remains asleep. I tend to dream feed her but she’ll remain in a restless sleep up until 7/8am when she wakes up.

She does seem windy but brings it up very well as we use gripe water and Colief.

I’m desperate for help as I just want to help my poor baby without the tears and screaming fits.

I don’t think it’s sleep regression as she would be waking a lot more through the night.

My LO started doing the random outbursts around 4 months too, she still does it now at 8 months. I still have no idea what causes them, but distraction usually helps unless she’s tired.

Good luck

Is she having a day time sleep or two? She is still very small.

Bless her. The fact she seems so upset personally to me sounds discomfort or pain related. I am picturing the cry you are describing with my boy and when he does that it is often because he has hurt himself. So I am thinking maybe teething. Can you pinpoint what is happening around the times she starts crying? Is it always same time of day? What has she been doing just before?
