Hello ,

Taking my one year old on holiday next week to Spain and we have a 20 min transfer from airport to our resort ... what's the best thing for a car seat? Shall I just take the one I have or Is it better just buying a portable one ?

He's too little for any of the travel boosters (and they're really not very good anyway). You'll need your car seat.

We've never used one, just had them on my lap or in a sling on me.

I’d just take what you have-is he still in Infant carrier? If not he probably still fits

For a short one off journey (like the one you describe) you don’t (legally) have to have a car seat. Unless the law has changed since I did it. If that’s the only car ride then you can carry baby in lap if you’re comfortable with that.

I took my Joie Tilt and bought a big orange bag for it from Amazon so I could carry it on my back. It went on the oversize baggage section (with the golf clubs and pushchairs) and had no issues

Legally you don't have to have a car in a taxi or on public transport (obviously laws might vary in other countries).

However a taxi is still a car, driven by a stranger, potentially on motorways and other fast/dangerous roads. The chances of something happening are thankfully quite low, but the consequences of a crash could be death.

If you don't want to take the risk, take a car seat. If you're happy to not take a car seat and hold a child, you know the risks associated with your choice.

If it's a coach transfer a seat won't be reserved for the baby, he/she will be expected to travel on your lap.

dancemat · 06/06/2019 22:18

Hello , yes it's a coach transfer .. didn't realise they are not allocated seats - thank you

I've just been to Spain the rep on the bus stated that the baby has to have a seat by law it's then for you to decide if baby goes on your lap or on the seat with seatbelt on. I put baby on the seat with belt round him didn't take a car seat.
