To much water?

My dd has just drank 3/4oz of water (warm otherwise she won't have it) is that too much? Has she thought it's milk and that's why? Sorry if this seems stupid but I've had people say to much water is bad for there kidneys??

How old is she?

rosesandwine · 05/06/2019 14:13

This seems such a stupid question but I'll obviously be offering her more water later and if she wants it she'll drink it? I just don't want to over do it? Or can you not over do it 😂

Water isn't A recommended for babies under 6 months, but at 11 months they can have a little bit a day so long as they are still breastfeeding or having formula. Ask your HV or gp for advise. The danger of too much water is called water intoxication and it is very dangerous.

babysharkah · 05/06/2019 14:16

Is she still drinking her milk?

MustardScreams · 05/06/2019 14:19

Bloody hell, an 11 month old is going to get poisoned by 4oz of water!!

Op she’s fine, it’s a drink. It’s been warm. She’s nearly a year old, it would be a totally different story if she was a week old. Relax!

rosesandwine · 05/06/2019 15:02

She's still having three bottles a day of milk and yes I will stop worrying 😂

An 11 month old can have as much water as they want (within reason presumably).

At that age they’re moving towards the same kind of diet that adults and children eat. So solid food, and then milk and water is a drink, not a food for them anymore. You wouldn’t worry if you had an extra glass of water a day if you were thirsty, same for your child!

Obviously if she was downing pints and pints of it then I’d be concerned about a medical problem, but not a few oz

That’s really good; you want to encourage water

InterchangeableEmma · 05/06/2019 18:52

Milk should be the main drink until a year old but it's good to encourage drinking water. 4oz is fine, as long as she's still having more milk than water Smile

freshstartnewme · 05/06/2019 19:02

4oz is not a lot of water. Mine were drinking much more than that by 11 months as they were eating 3 meals a day.

You say she could have thought it was milk so I can only presume she is bottle fed that. In which case you know it's made with water right?

stucknoue · 05/06/2019 19:07

If she was drinking 4 oz and demanding more several times a day then see your gp but a bit of cooled water is recommended in warm weather even for young bottle fed babies (with breastfeeding you just feed more in hot weather as our amazing bodies adjust the content, biology is amazing to me!) try not to worry, from this age on they eat more like us adults.

rosesandwine · 06/06/2019 14:56

Thanks for the reply's! She won't drink water unless it's warm (like her milk is warm) I know her milk is made with water lol! Grin she's had weetabix and toast with a bottle this morning then fish fingers and a few chips with half an oz water as she doesn't want anymore. Then she'll have another bottle at about 4? Then dinner with water later. Then her last bottle of milk before bed. I hope I'm doing this right Blush
