Hi all,

Just interested to hear what you found essential in terms of baby proofing? My first baby, he has just started crawling and I have no idea what I'm doing 😂😂. Can I have some recommendations of essential purchases/adjustments please?

Also - are playpens essential in people's opinions? I have a small house so not sure where I would put one Confused

Thanks :)

I would really wait and tailor it to your child.

My first 2 for example never put things in their mouths or climbed on stuff so all I did was a stair gate.

DC3 is obsessed with the cooker so we have put an extra gate in the kitchen.

It can be useful to have a space to put the child if you need to go to the loo or answer the door where you know they will be safe but that can be a room as easily as a playpen.

If you are in the UK, you probably don't want socket covers. There are a few articles on this but as we were only in the UK for our first 2 DCS, maybe things have change and other posters know better?

Yeh I would wait and see how it goes, I think most people end up with at least one baby gate
We have 2 baby gates, no play pen LO would just be left in a room with gates closed so I could still hear if I needed to nip upstairs or in the kitchen
We have door clips as my LO loves to open drawers and get fingers stuck in them and bedroom furniture is attached to the wall

We aren't at that stage yet but attended a talk the other other day as its child safety week. They recommded moving all your cleaning products to a high up shelf instead of under the sink. Also to get down on your hands and knees to view the room as your baby would! Sounds silly but I admit to trying it and it was useful. Also button batteries are a huge risk as you won't know they've swallowed it but can have devastating effects very quickly. The other one they mentioned was blind cords.

Sorry to ramble but it's all fresh in my mind!

Interesting thanks guys. I will hold off and see how he goes for now. He does love a door though so I can see those becoming a hazard!!! Might leave the playpen for now and just get some baby gates.

Great idea about getting down to baby's level!!! I am up for a crawl around haha Grin
