Do you wake a fevering toddler?

So... toddler has a virus (already been to doctors). Not alarming but she’s very uncomfortable when the calpol wears off and her temperature has been going quite high.

I intended to give next dose before bedtime but she nodded off on the sofa before i gave it.

Temp has gone very high again but reluctant to wake her - would you wake and dose or leave to sleep with high temp?

I have woken mine before. To offer next dose and some drink. They nodded back off straight after.

Other times I haven't woke them because they seemed well enough to continue sleeping and have some when they woke for it.

You know what's best.

I'd part wake them for medicine

I would for a high temp if you know it's going to spike. Probably a mild one I'd just keep a good eye.

I would wake. With a temp I alternate calpol and baby neurofen as doctor said it helps bring temp down quicker

Hope they feel better spot

I slightly wake them with the syringe ready they usually take it and go straight back to sleep. Hope they're better soon.

I'd give a gentle wake up until they're awake enough to swallow and put back down, hopefully will just go back to sleep

MrHaroldFry · 04/06/2019 21:36

Yes, keep temp under control at all costs. Have syringe primed and perhaps a sippy cup of water. Wake very kindly and straight in with meds and drink if asked. LO will likely go back to sleep fairly quickly.

Not all temperatures/fevers are dangerous and need treating. As a pp said if its mild then I'd leave it and just keep an eye and check regularly. A temperature is often a way the body deals with the illness. However I have a 1 yo myself and I know that when you have a child with even a small temp it's scary and you just want it down ASAP! Hope your lo feels better soon OP x
