dd scared to poo on toilet - now holding in wee.....

Hello, new poster here.

I've been potty training for 2 weeks which has gone really well. dd is 2.3 and after 2 days of accidents, was asking to use toilet (won't use potty) and we had no leaks or accidents for 2 weeks, although she was still pooing in nappy at naptime/night or in her pants. However, she seems to have lost her confidence and is not asking to use toilet anymore, saves it for when she has a nappy on at naptime/night and the occassional accident. I'm worried she might get a urine infection from holding in for so long. If I suggest going to use the loo, she gets very stroppy. She will not poo in toilet and has gone from being regular to once/twice every 2/3 days. I'm thinking she might be holding in the wee in case she starts to poo as well? Anyone had any similar experience? Should I stop for a while? She was doing so well to start with, now seems worried by the whole toilet experience. We keep saying she can poo in her nappy if she wants, but that doesn't seem to help.

We are being calm and not getting cross at all, and are full of praise if she does go to the loo. I've even stopped asking her if she needs the toilet so often, so as not to pressure her. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hannah

I'd take the pressure off her and stop for a while until she's feeling happier about the whole business. Let her take the lead, and do it all at her pace.

my little girl didn't like the splash her poo made - I used to out toilet paper down before, if it helps

Had some improvement today. dd has been asking to use toilet again (for wees) and not had any accidents. I'll just let her poop in nappy/pants until she feels ready to do otherwise.

Thanks for your replies.

Both my 2 suffer with constipation and when we started potty training dd 2yo this was making her v.anxious when going to the toilet for a poo because it hurt her (she was in tears!). It was a terrible time, we give her more fat now in her diet and it has made a difference.
