I went to Barcelona with my then 8 month old. I would take a pushchair and a sling for the plane. Then I would be mindful of what you plan to do all day. I can't imagine a resort will be all that interesting unless you plan to spend a lot of time in the villa. Babies that age don't really do pools or the beach. I would plan short days out to do various activities, meals, down time for both of you (I would bring mine back to our flat to crawl around inside or on the terrace, a very large roof terrace, while I relaxed), then evenings with dinner and a bit of a walk. He would usually sleep extra and stay awake until 9 ish every night while I did whatever in the evenings, which is very normal for babies in Spain. I would just plan around having a likely mobile baby, so you will need to baby proof and you will need to plan in floor time each day so you don't go mad. If there is two of you, I would also plan time each day for you each to have some time off to relax, go for a swim, have a massage, sit on the beach and have a cocktail.

In terms of 'stuff', you need like a shorter list of the stuff you use every day at home. So snacks, cups/bottles (and other bottle feeding stuff if you bottle feed), clothes, nappies, a few toys, sleeping things, etc. I would pack as light as you can and not bring loads of stuff. You can usually buy things locally as needed except for formula.

You don’t say where you are going but I took my not yet one year old to Barcelona and despite Spain’s famed love of children the public transport system is not at all pushchair friendly nor were any of the museums we went to. Loads of stairs and no changing facilities in the toilets - had to change my son on a filthy floor in one. I also remember the queue for taxis - I had a pushchair and suitcase so was kind of shuffling them along and Spanish people were barging in front of me constantly.
They are more tolerant of them being around in restaurants and up late but found no practical help.
I love Spain - I have a house there - but like anywhere it’s hard with really small kids. Is your partner going that will help! I was on my own.
In terms if bringing stuff - even fairly rural places are nearish to a supermarket where you will find most common brands of nappies etc.
September is a lovely time to go - the overwhelming heat of the summer is passing and most tourists will have left.

Oh sorry I'm going to a resort in Tenerife so I won't be doing loads of day trips out... the resort has lots of facilities including indoor pools etc too in case it's too hot for him. My partner always lies in the shade anyway so he will be happy that we aren't doing a sunbathing holiday!

I was going to pickup a really cheap buggy to take instead of our expensive pr as I think it might get flung around a bit at the airport.

I'm BFing so I won't need formula but maybe I should take a tiny bit just in case I was unwell?

Thanks for the tips so far

Only pack enough nappies for the journey and the first couple of days. There are babies in Tenerife and the local supermarkets are bound to have what you need. And do a bit of brand research before you go. I’d read that the Dodot brand in Spain was just as good as Pampers, so we bought a pack locally. They were miles cheaper and when I opened them I found they actually were Pampers Simply Dry with a different name (made by Proctor and Gamble just the same). When buying nappies you’ll need to know your baby’s weight in kilograms. You can also buy wipes in supermarkets and pharmacies and Huggies wipes are available in Carrefour. I would pack swim nappies, though. Just in case. Although I could have bought them in Tenerife, there’s a chance they won’t be as available if you’re not in a popular beach resort.
Changing facilities are few and far between but you will find them in department stores and in some restaurants.
Calpol is not widely available but there are local alternatives which are paracetamol based.
If you do have to formula feed and need to buy bottled water, make sure you buy a brand with a low mineral and sodium content. Evian, Beyaz and Font Vella are available in Spain and are low in minerals and sodium.
