Newborn (2 weeks) dirty nappies

Hello all

I am probably overthinking this but just wanted some reassurance. My 2 week old baby girl had 3 explosive poos yesterday morning and then hasn't pooped again since (over 24 hours). She has had wet nappies (but not as many as normal), and has been feeding absolutely fine.

How long until I worry? Thank you.

Ff or bf?

Breastfed? Don’t worry for another 10 days! I can’t help about formula feeding, sorry Flowers

Breastfed babies tend to poo a lot less as there is barely any waste in BM. It’s very normal for them to go a week or more without pooing and then have a massive one (dd caught me out once in a cafe with no changing bag. That was fun).

Keep an eye on consistency of the poo - seedy, mustard yellow are normal. If they’re green it can be that baby is getting too much foremilk and not enough fatty hindmilk. Make sure you fully drain the breast before switching if that’s the case.

If there’s mucous or blood it could be worth cutting dairy products out of your diet as baby may have a lactose intolerance. Consult a GP, but that will usually be what they suggest first.

One of mine went every 3 days the other every 5, explosive requiring change of clothes and a bath, until they went onto solids, like clockwork

Yup, definitely 10 days! Breast milk is very efficient, not much waste Grin
