Cloth nappies on a toddler at night

Hi all,
I’m getting to the end of my tether with this one.

My son (3.5) is potty trained during the day but still has nappies at night.

My problem is two fold

The leaking and the washing

I stuff each nappy with about 4 or more layers but they always leak along the sides. I’ve used cloth on him since the beginning so I don’t think it’s an issue with fit. Do I just need more layers? I can’t see how they would fit him if they were any bulkier. Fwiw he leaks through disposable too.

Second issue is the washing.
Because he’s only wearing one per day it makes for a super small wash. I try to do them every three days which is still a small wash but also in that time they absolutely pong! I keep them wrapped up and I can still smell them. I gag when I put them in the washer.

What do you guys do?

Thanks in advance

My little girl is the same age as your son, also dry in the day time and in a cloth nappy at night. We use a Bambino Mio AIO (the bumgenius we have are too short for her now!). I put 1 or 2 hemp boosters inside and then a fleece lined bamboo booster next to her akin to keep any moisture away. I have to say, it works a treat and doesn’t end up ridiculously bulky, even less so than a bamboozle.
My 9 month old is also in washables, I put them all in with other washing I’ve never separated them out! As long as I’m doing a daily wash I dont have a problem with stinks, I don’t put them in a pail or anything they just go straight in the machine as they’re used ready for a wash in the evening.

Motherease Bedwetters have worked for us. Pull up and down if she needs to go to the loo. For our DD they need a liner which makes it a bit more tricky but they are really good absorbency wise.
She's now just 5 and quite skinny and she's been in the XS since aged 3. I tried the S on her but they are too big (would leak at the legs) but she has got skinny legs.

Oh and they are ginormous so we would wash 2 night nappies plus a bunch of washable wipes and that's a wash. But she's not reliably trained in the day (has had bowel issues for probably years without us knowing) so the same wash is likely to have some daytime accident clothes in too.
