Curly hair or get it cut?

Hi all,
Does anyone have any tips for curly/ringlet type hair? When my boy gets up of a morning its like a birds nest! I used to use the tangle free conditioner spray but i find it makes my lb hair feel like straw and with this rubbish weather i think i just keep giving him a head cold when I'm wetting it. I love his hair and would hate to get it cut but his hair gets to knotted of a night. Thanks for any tips xx

Well, you're not giving him a head cold by wetting his hair. Colds are caused by cold viruses, not chilly scalps. But that's my only advice! DD is the same - total bird's nest nest! Will be keeping an eye on this thread to see if anyone has any more helpful tips!

Is it long enough to put in to braids/plaits or tie up? I'm mixed race, most of the black and mixed race men in my family who have very curly hair either shove braids in their hair, sleep in a silk durag (women with longer her such as myself use satin night caps) and moisturise it before bed.

I'm glad to know it's not because of me he keeps getting head colds, really is this rubbish weather. Well when his hair is wet it's just below his shoulders, I've tried putting his hair up but he never keeps the bobble in, could give it another go. Sorry what is a silk durag? What moisturiser could i use please xx

You can't get a cold from wet hair.

Personally I would get it cut if it's knotting up so much.

Look up the curly girl method. They have a Facebook page. I just started on me and my DS. I just use the Tesco essences conditioner on us both and the tesco gel on me. It's really cheap and gives gorgeous curls.

Satin pillow case if he uses a pillow. Wash with conditioner only, use it to scrub the scalp clean, rinse and then condition the ends. Brush through when wet with conditioner in. Keep on top of detangling by spraying his hair with a water and conditioner mixture and using a tangle teaser or comb.

Also definitely use a curly girl method conditioner like tesco essences mentioned above

My DD has curly hair (ringlets) and I found the tangle spray awful - it made her hair dry and sticky at the same time!

She has lovely curls - I only use conditioner when I wash it (occasionally shampoo, e.g. if she’s rubbed sand in her hair!). I wash at night and then put her to bed with damp hair (gently squeeze out the excess moisture with a towel). The only time
I brush it is when it’s got conditioner on mid-wash (I use a tangle teaser and start at the ends, working back up towards the scalp)

In the mornings I spray it with water (using a plant spray bottle) and then run my fingers through it with a splodge of leave in conditioner (I use an adults one - I think it’s L’Oréal, something with oil in the name) - I find the kids conditioning sprays rubbish.
