Is this just my mum or do all mother's develop amnesia to how they parented?

My mum is driving me potty. Apparently babies in her day didn't have teething problems. All babies went to bed at 6pm and woke (note "woke", not were allowed up) at 8am. We didn't have such frequent colds and bugs. We were never sick. The list goes on. I'm beginning to get a bit of an inferiority complex about it and take it as criticism. But when I say something like "so how did you get us to sleep 6-8?" she goes all vague and can't remember just says that is how it was. She also blatantly misremembers things about our childhood that my sister and I remember completely differently. Is this normal of her generation? How can I deal with it without answering back? She's become quite involved in DS care lately as I've been ill and so I need and value her support, I just find this all a bit infuriating.

I find the parents are not too bad, esp my in laws who are just fab, but the great grandparents!!!

One grandmother (dhs) used to always be amazed and very critical that ds1 took so long to be toilet trained (yes it did take until 3 and a half before he was properly sorted) but in her days she had both her boys trained at birth (yeah right!!) Infact FIL told me quietly aside, that it took him longer to be toilet trained than his brother, and so did dh take his time

Weaning - back in those days people were putting a raw egg in bottles, to help settle a baby and started solids a lot earlier and the amazement from her that I think ds2 will be weaned at 6mths and not 4 like his brother, oh the judgements!

She told dh for being too rough with ds1 as an older baby (lifting him up and a bit of rough and tumble type thing) so I retorted please report me to social services if you think my baby has dreadful parents!

So I find the grandparents the worst.. my grandmother asked me what milk I was giving ds2, I said from me, and she was all confused (she is 90 though) took dh to point out that I was breastfeeding and she made a comparison to cow and gate her day

like the thread though
