Question for parents with eczema and allergy kids

Hi everyone, my 21 month old has eczema, cmpa and egg allergy. She's now tolerating baked milk so that's some progress but I still find the whole thing quite stressful.
Her skin I find a real emotional rollercoaster. When we're having a good week I feel so relaxed but a bad week can really upset me and make me anxious and guilty even though I know we are doing everything we can to minimise triggers.
I have a few questions for those who've been through similar:

  1. We've been using mild steroids for flares and for "weekend treatment" to keep her skin under control for a long time now. It doesn't seem to be enough tonkanager her

Posted too soon!
... it doesn't seem to be enough to manage her wrists anymore. Does that mean we need a higher steroid?
2) has anyone been in this position and ever managed to get off steroids entirely and just manage with emollients? We use epaderm and sometimes lighter cream ones such as Mustela.
3) Did you find that as babies outgrew food allergies their skin improved on its own too? Or are they not so directly related?
4) My dd is also not wild about food -'anyone manage to tackle food refusal and pickiness in an allergy baby as they grew older? Tell me it all gets easier!
Thank you!

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking, but I had horrendous eczema as a baby/child, only betnovate touched it plus my poor mum had to basically smear me in vaseline (this was the 70s...). The eczema was all contact triggers but I also had major allergy attacks with at the time unknown trigger. (Plus really random things like rings of boils that travelled down my body head to foot just to make her life super-easy)

As I got older I grew out of more and more of them, and all went down to a manageable level after puberty - from what I've been told it's really common to either grow into or out of them at that stage. So I don't know if it helps, but don't assume your poor child will suffer like this for life!

I have an older son who has outgrown a cmpa. His eczema was always quite mild anyway.

My youngest (9 months) has cmpa, egg allergy and peanut allergy. All non ige. As long as we are avoiding food his eczema is ok and managed with emollients only and even then not all the time.

Do you think there could be something else triggering the eczema? Washing powder, cosmetics, a different food?

Can't remember all of your questions and because there are 2 posts I can't look but I do remember the fussy eating one. Allergies have never made mine fussy eaters. My one fussy kid doesn't have allergies. I found the best thing with him was just to keep offering different foods alongside one I knew he would eat and eventually he would give in and try them (and usually liked them)

I had eczema as a child and I've grown out of it, or rather the amount of cmp I can tolerate has increased hugely.

I used to go to bed with a thick solid layer of sudocrem on and moisturiser over the top, glad that those days are over! I seem to remember switching between creams helped keep them effective.

Ds needed betnovate to get it under control and to eumovate on his face.
Once fully under control we could manage it with emollients/moisters until it flared up again.
Now at 7 he still has allergies but his eczema isn't too bad.
We still only use detmol as a soap substitute.

Thanks everyone, in it's way this is really reassuring. We're having a bad week as teething means her hands and wrists are flaring up badly and we're back on daily steroid use again til under control. But good to know this might not dominate her whole life.

We're definitely at the covering in Vaseline (or epaderm) stage of life. Everything in our house is smeared in grease and probably very flammable....

My 3 year old had cmpa (now fully outgrown after the milk ladder), egg allergy (now tolerates well baked eggs in things), celery and kiwi allergy (yet to outgrow) and had quite bad eczema as a baby. We managed it with very frequent epaderm applications and occasional betnovate courses when required but these days I would say he more just suffers dry skin which we manage with epaderm once a day. I have no idea if it's because his allergies settled down a lot or if he just outgrew the eczema but from about 2 we haven't had to use any steroids. Hopefully this will be the same for your little one. Good luck x
