8 month sleeps really well on fleece - Equivalent?

My 8 month sleeps really well on fleece blankets for naps and if we are away.

I don’t put him on one at night and he’s constantly moving or waking up sometimes.

I’m away at my sister in laws and he’s asleep on a fleece blanket on the floor and he’s knocked out.

Is there a equivalent that I can put in his cot that won’t make him too hot? Can I use a fleece blanket for him to lay on or will it make him too hot?

What about a sheepskin/lamb skin for babies? You can get some that come shorn short. It sounds like it would be hot but in fact wool regulates temperature.

However, if he turns himself onto his front to sleep then it isn’t recommended.

Also, I’m not sure about this but I’d have thought a blanket made of natural wool fleece - something like merino so it is soft not itchy - that should be temperature regulating too.

Can you not get a fleece fitted sheet for his bed at home if he likes lying on top of them?

Also have a look at comforters for him if he likes something soft to snuggle against.

Brushed cotton sheet?

He does sleep on the front. Why would the lambs sheep skin be an issue if he slept on the front?

I’ve tried soft cotton sheets, they don’t work.

Can't you just tuck the fleece blanket in like a bed sheet?

TigerQuoll · 27/05/2019 01:24

@chargedproton probably because it would be easier to suffocate in the long fibres

The SIDS advice about front sleepers and sheepskin will be based on this study or one like it:

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9821434

The study does talk about babies being "placed" on their front to sleep rather than being placed on their backs and getting onto their fronts themselves, so it could be that they were younger and unable to roll (I don't know the ages and can't access the whole article).

Regarding front-sleeping in general, you may have had the same advice as me that it's important to put them to sleep on their back, but if they are able to move themselves to their front it's not something to get worked up about.

For what it's worth, my one year old now often moves himself onto his front to sleep and I still use his sheepskin (which he loves and which definitely helped with sleeping) as I'm confident he is very mobile.

Thank you BurpingFrog

He likes sleeping in his front. I always put him in his back but he ends up on his front.

Is sheepskin better than fleece to put in the cot?

I want to buy one or the other.
