Is this enough for a 11 month old?

First time posting.. my dd is 11 months in 2 weeks and today she has had a bottle with weetabix and blackberries mixed in, then later she had blueberries and a corn beef sandwich with cucumber and cheese in it, then a bottle a while after, then she's had mash broccoli and chicken with a teaspoon of chicken soup for dinner and another bottle? But I feel like she hasn't drank enough in the day and I've made her dehydrated!?? She's just drank her bottle and gone to bed? Should I wake her for another one in two hours? She usually has 5 bottles a day then it went to 4 but today she's only had 3? No water etc just milk Sorry if this is a stupid question!

Has she still had wet and dirty nappies? That's how you can judge dehydration.

By nearly 11mo you'd expect the number of bottles/ounces to be reduced anyway as they get more calories and nutrition from food. Water at every meal and during the day to encourage good drinking habits too, especially on hot days.

Iliveeachday · 26/05/2019 23:08

Yeah she has I just panicked as she usually has more milk and didn't get that today

If her water isn't warm she won't have it!

When ds was 9 months old he stopped bottles completely. Totally refused them. I gave lots of calcium rich foods and full fat plain yoghurts. He was fine.

Charlottejade89 · 27/05/2019 12:19

That sounds fine, my dd is 10 months and shes been on 3 bottles a day for a while now, and doesn't drink much water either as I'm still trying to find a cup or bottle she will drink from

Rosebud1302 · 27/05/2019 12:28

@Wildorchidz sorry to jump in I'm just curious - when baby refused bottles did they go from dinner without anything (nothing before bed)? Did you find night wakings increased?

Wildorchidz · 27/05/2019 18:28

@rosebud - he would have a plain unsweetened full fat yoghurt maybe about an hour before bed.
And we never had an issue with night waking..

Rosebud1302 · 27/05/2019 20:59

@Wildorchidz that's great!!!

Nuckyscarnation · 28/05/2019 07:24

Putting food in a babies bottle is dangerous. She could choke. Please stop doing that op. It’s creating an unnecessary danger.

Jinglejanglefish · 28/05/2019 07:28

Wait the Weetabix and fruit where in a bottle? How does that even work and what's the purpose of it? She should really be having water in the day.

I wouldn't worry to much about the milk, if she's hungry she'll wake up for a bottle.

ilovewine4ever · 28/05/2019 10:05

Typing error. She's had a bottle. Weetabix and berry's were sesperately I wouldn't see how weetabix would even work in a bottle lol

( Name change but this is my post )

Babies don’t need water. Milk or BM is fine. How do you think babies survive in places where there isn’t clean water?

Op - will your DD take milk from a sippy cup ? Warm milk is fine if that’s how she likes it.

Is she walking yet? She might be more keen to use a cup with handles when she is walking because it’s easier to hold than a bottle. Then she can drink while on the move.

ilovewine4ever · 28/05/2019 11:10

@ImNotNigel she's 11 months , she isn't walking yet no, she hasn't even crawled She can stand quite well assisted and takes steps when you hold her for support but not many. I made another post about how she doesn't use her left hand! So she wouldn't even hold the cup if I gave it to her! She had 2oz water yesterday, so that's better than nothing surely?

Jinglejanglefish · 28/05/2019 11:11

Well often they fail to thrive and many die in infancy so not the best example. Why would you not give them water if you had the option? At the very least it helps them not be constipated.

From NHS website: Fully breastfed babies don't need any water until they've started eating solid foods. Formula-fed babies may need some extra water in hot weather.

ilovewine4ever · 28/05/2019 11:13

I offer her water obviously, she had 2oz yesterday

ImNotNigel · 28/05/2019 11:29

I assume that you have spoken to your GP and Hv about her not using her hand ? You need to get a referral .

Is she a bum shuffler ? Don’t try to get her to walk by supporting her, it’s better if she crawls first.

My DD has some delays and wasn’t crawling ( or bum shuffling) at 13 months. People kept trying to hold her up to walk which I had to stop. In the end she did manage to crawl for about 6 weeks before walking at 15 months.

The OPs baby is FF and it’s not hot weather. She’s not asking for a bottle, she has wet nappies. There’s no reason to think she is thirsty or dehydrated.

Yet another thing to wind up the Op about , when she obviously has other concerns about her LO.

ilovewine4ever · 28/05/2019 11:38

@ImNotNigel yeah one doctor said she's just right handed?? But still doesn't seem right with me. She uses it the tiniest bit but she doesn't pick anything up with it.

ilovewine4ever · 28/05/2019 11:38

And no @ImNotNigel she doesn't even shuffle yet either

kikibo · 28/05/2019 11:58

Some babies don't crawl or bum shuffle. Is she showing an interest at least?

My DD never crawled, hated tummy time and only turned her bum on the floor to move. If anything was too far away, she'd just accept that. I only discovered she could stand by chance. Wouldn't pull up either. Now, at 21 months, she walks with her toddle truck and dances at it. She'll use me for support to get up. I asked our paediatrician (all children have one here) and he said as long as something happens it's fine. Though I do think that if I hadn't stood her up myself at 15 months+, she'd still be sitting on the floor.

However, I do think you need to ask about that left hand. Left- and right-handedness only comes later. You never know if that's hampering her crawling.

ilovewine4ever · 28/05/2019 12:08

She won't crawl because she won't use it I think that's the issue, sometimes she keeps it clenched into a fist. Not sure why then it'll be normal. I'll get a second opinion. She can sit unaided but that's pretty much it. Is this a concern do you think? She uses her walker sometimes too

kikibo · 28/05/2019 16:11

Well, apparently walking independently is normal up to 2 years. So I wouldn't get worried.

Her hand often clenched into a fist sounds a bit weird, though. I thought babies' hands start to open up for grabbing around 6 weeks. And it becomes the default position afterwards.
I would definitely look for a second opinion if she isn't using/refusing to use that hand. It may be nothing, but it's worth being checked out IMO.
