Really hot and vomiting 17 month old

Hi all

For a bit of back story, my little boy 17 month old started settling in sessions at nursery about 1 month ago. Hourly sessions. A few weekends ago he started projectile vomiting, on the Saturday and Sunday then stopped. He done the same the next weekend. I called the doctor and they said pretty much as long as he was alright in himself, weeing and pooing ok and no diarrhoea or blood in poo then they would see how he goes and not too concerned. I mentioned he had just started settling in at nursery, and he still drunk alot of milk instead of water - they said that he could be getting minor bugs at nursery and they were not conerned about his milk intake. Following on from this I started to reduce his milk intake by watering down his bottles and only giving him his beaker of water/bit of squash between meals. One evening he was coughing then sick, so we started encouraging him to sleep on a pillow to elevate him as per googles advice. He had a cold twice recently so thought maybe he had too much mucus on his chest. Vomiting stopped.

Fast forward to this weekend, he has been fine although very very warm, so encouraging him to drink lots of liquid. Last night he was very unsettled, today quite tired and then this evening after tea he vomited. Fine in himself after vomiting and went to sleep. Tried to settle him in his bed but he has woken up, vomited a bit more and been generally unsettled and very warm (temp of 38.2). Aside from giving him Calpol which we have just managed to do, stripped him down to shorts and letting him sleep on us as thats how he is most comfortable, is there anything else we can do?!

And as an aside.. has anyone experienced a few weeks vomiting after starting their child at nursery?!

Put towels underneath you both so you only have to remove towels rather than changing the sheet. 38 is a fever but it’s not worryingly high. Just keep offering him small amounts of drinks and cuddles.

Thank you for replying!!

Good to know his temp is not worringly high. Hes woken up a few times crying but we've managed to get him to bed and he seems comfy.

Luckily, he has never been ill before so this is horrible!

I'd give him baby nurofen as it's better than call at bringing down a temperature. Re: milk - dont worry about how much milk he is drinking - I would rather my 4 year old had milk than squash. Water us also good but if your son likes milk and is not overweight and eating well then let him gave it. Starting nursery is a nightmare. My son was almost constantly ill for the first 3 months. They pick up every bug going. Keep an eye on him and if his temp keeps going up ring 111 for advice.
