Just been out of education soo long, really wondering if its all above me,and whether i can do it!
Decided to start of with the diabetes care course first then do k100! Did anyone else feel like this when they started??

Is the diabetes course a 10 point openings course? They are a great way to start, not too demanding in terms of the number of hours you have to put in. They are geared towards people returning to study after a long time & include lots of study skills.

I'm just finishing a 10 point OU course & have really enjoyed it & found it easy to fit in around children & work etc. I'm hoping to do more courses over the next few years when my dc are at school. Go for it!

Its a 15 point course i think!
Ive got 4 kids under 11, so shall be challenging non the less! Trying to get prepared for when my youngest will start school( 3 years!!)
Do you get lots of support from the tutor?? I know some places arent very good!

To be honest I haven't felt the need for much tutor support, probably because I have done a degree before - but my tutor has contacted me & emphasised she is just a phone call/email away & happy to help.

I honestly don't think you'll find 15 points too demanding. It's the 60 point courses I'm worried about! But I'll have lots more time when dc (nearly 5 & 3) are at nursery/school.

I have managed to do the 10 point course in the evenings & I work a couple of evenings too. I've never done any coursework at the weekends & I've taken weeks off for holidays & when my dc have been ill. Mind you I haven't passed it yet, the assessment is due on wednesday!

I'm doing the diabetes course in September, thought it looked quite interesting
Have been doing OU courses for years, nearly finshed a BSc. Tutor support has always been good for me
I'm sure it won't all be above you, level 1 courses usually fairly easy going
I think the openings courses are specifically for people who haven't done any study for ages, so they are probably the easiest, but if you're particularly interested in diabetes that might motivate you a bit more?
It'll be fine

Yeah i picked that one cos really interseted in biology and all medical bits and bobs! Really looking forward to starting in sept!! Be nice to keep in touch "thursdaynext" with someone doing the same course!

Has anyone applied for a financial award? Just asking, as am just putting my award in for april 08 ( k100).Have heard that you may be ablr=e to get help buying a pc( has anyone done this?) Bit awkward at the mo as havent got one myself, having to borrow other peoples makes it a bit awkward!)

Sorry, no experience of financial awards myself
Have a friend on a low income who I think got her course fees paid, will ask her next time I talk to her pinkystinky
If you're planning on doing enough courses for a BSc I think you really need a computer, I'm sure it could be done without but would be such a pain. The courses use computers more and more and if you have your own it will give you so much more flexibility about when you study
I reckon with 4 kids you'll need as much flexibility as you can get...

Tell me about it! Will try and do bits whem my one year old has a nap during the day ( and the other three are at school)and in evenings.
Fingers crossed will get help towards pc,just got to wait and see!!Just wanna get stuck into the course now, lol!
