Come on guys need honest opinions here. I have never used cloth before and am due my baby in 3 weeks.

At the moment I have some bambeasys bimbles and mothercare flat shaped nappies which i'm planning to use in the early days

I also have some prefolds and bamboo boosters.

Was thinking about nappies for when baby gets a bit bigger and have been reading alot about stuffables but can someone give me honest opinions on them please as it all confuses me lol.

Are they quick drying? what do you stuff them with? basically a guide to stuffables would be great thanks lol

Personally I'm not amazingly keen on stuffables, because I'm lazy and don't see the point of adding extra time to doing nappies (ie the time take to stuff and unstuff them).

That said, lots of people swear by them. They're usually good for nurseries or other carers because once stuffed they're perhaps easier to use than two part nappies (I say perhaps, because really 2-parts are sooo easy).

Often stuffies are slimmer than other nappies, and they're frequently (but not always) made from microfleece or other artificial fibres which are faster drying than bamboo or cotton, and usually stay softer too, certainly than cotton.

What you stuff them with depends on the nappy. Our Swaddlebees pocket nappies, for instance, are best stuffed with their own boosters because Swaddlebees pockets are cut ultra-trim and therefore the shapes SB boosters fit without bulk, however people have used other things like bamboo boosters to stuff them with.

Other pocket nappies may be stuffed with their own inserts or other things such as a folded prefold or terry nappy, or even microfibre cloths from the supermarket.

I hope this gives you some ideas - no doubt more thoughts will be along soon!

Nappyzone loooooooooooooooooves em.

I'm enjoying them more now we're in toddlerhood.

Stuff em with either the boosters they come with, or prefolds if you have any laying around. I tend to use the official boosters because they fit better.

If you use microfibre inserts they dry fast.

Erm... nappyzone will be along soon.

I never got on with stuffables, I had quite heavy wetters and found that they leaked around the edges of the stuffing so my advice would be buy several 2nd hand and see how the fit & suit your little one. I prefer having something very reliable which means sticking to fitted nappies and a seperate wrap or hemprestos

Heeeeellllllllllllllo!!!!!!!! I love stuffables or pocket nappies as they are widely known as! I have a large array in my personal stash and oodles on my site - i am today trying out bamboo squares but just keep thinkng why oh why when i have pretty pockets everywhere ! I am loving Bumgenius onesize pockets at the moment as so reliable on my ds and slim to get under his jeans and being a onesize will get oodles of time out of them - fuzzis are my 2nd most reliable ever pocket and i think the medium just seems to last my ds forever - very good indeed - faves followed closely by drybees and happy heinys - swadlebees ov pocket love now but a bit unpredictable at first - wonderoos again reliable and a birth to pottty onesize job and also in fab colours. Happy heinys are bringing out a onesize nappy in the next 6 weeks also which im a tadge excited about and yup as predicted by flame i came and am now all pocketed out - they are easy peasy - unstuff for washing and restuff then they just go on like a sposie would - no hassle at all and quicker drying than my bambinio thats now been on the line 2 days (ok we had a shower) but my actual pocket part will dry in about 2 hrs and the insert in about 6!!. OOO and dont forget peapods - cutetastic and cheap - someoen on here bought a bamboo one of me and i cant remember who it was to ask but hopefully they will come along and tell me how it was as havent got round to trying out on my ds although understand sbum has on her little people so can give a better opinion on them. Anyway pockets are funky and pockets rock THE END!

nappyzone · 20/07/2007 15:28

oh i stuff mine with prefolds, microterry inserts (mostly)or ellas house hemp inserts and now also will be stuffing them with the experimented on bamboo squares to boost them through the night - sorry theres no stopping me now!!!

nappyzone · 20/07/2007 15:29

What are the swaddlebees velour ones like?

OP posts:
nappyzone · 20/07/2007 19:57

i have used and have one ov lined pocket swdlebee in my personal stash - it leaked constantly until my ds got to about 6 months old - now its like a dream, i would get to grips with liking a pocket reliable before i experimented with a maybe work maybe wont nappy but if it does work thats good - they seem to fit some babies and dont others. Have fun - pssst - check out the print fuzzis!

vikki75 · 20/07/2007 20:03

I know it sounds strange but the AOI nappies just really remind me of kooshies which i tried once and found them really hard and scratchy and that was new.

I like the feel of the rikki wraps so my ideal nappy would be that on the outide and either bamboo or the fleece from a bambeasy inside lol

Dont want much do I ;). What would you recommend for a newborn?

OP posts:
nappyzone · 20/07/2007 20:16

the pocket nappies are nothing like kooshies imo, there not all in one for a start there to stuff - most are lovely fleece lined like the fuzzi or suedette or ov, most sellers inc. myself in many instances would recomend a two parter eg bambenio bamboo nappy with a wrap -airflow etc. but if i was popping out another (and i am so not going to) i would have him or her in cutey mini fuzzis without a doubt from the off but as many will testify im a pocket addict so call me biased but they work and i love em! Also ive seen a lovely white bumgenius in action on a newborn (well he was a ten pounder!) and it worked well though on a teeny scrawny one i couldnt comment. Its all trial and error but i think you would reduce the error factor if your first pocket was a well known well loved by alot of people one like a fuzzzi iyswim.

vikki75 · 20/07/2007 20:20

I must admit I do like the fuzzis they are cute . I'm expecting this baby to be about 8lbs but wont be using cloth for a few weeks anyway so to be honest he is probably going to be 9-10lbs before I start.

Do you need a wrap with the fuzzis or are they just like a normal nappy that you stuff? I have 2 minki waffles so are they anything like them?

Sorry about all the questions I just want to know what i'm getting lol

nappyzone · 20/07/2007 20:23

my ds is bigger - hes 8 months and on the move - im struggling with a two part system when im using one as getting him to keep still is a nightmare so i find them easier on him as a bigger baby as i only have to wrestle with him and pin the nappy on him once without having to lunge at him a 2nd time to get a wrap on. oh the joys of a mobile baby!

nappyzone · 20/07/2007 20:25

you dont need a wrap - it comes with an insert and you stuff it with it and it just goes on - no wrap no fuss just a cute bum! until its full of s*! dont know what a minki waffle is

maisiemog · 20/07/2007 20:51

I have to say I'm not a big fan of pocket/stuffable nappies.
The terminology is a bit confusing, but I think generally the nappies that don't require a wrap and do require a stuffing of some sort are called pocket nappies, like Fuzzi Bunz or Bumgenius.
I think that stuffable nappies are quite often the type that require a wrap, but that you can also add stuffing to, like a Minki Waffle - which requires a wrap.
Pocket nappies have a fabric outer which has been coated with PUL, a waterproofing thingy. I think you can feel the difference between regular cotton or whatever and PUL coated fabric.
I remember thinking they would be the perfect nappy, before trying them. After I was slightly disillusioned because they seemed to leak much more than a nappy and wrap. The slimness soon disappeared when I had to add loads of stuffing in a bid to stop the leaks, however they are handy for out and about and I think it's definitely worth having a few for that.
They do seem to suit some babies better than others and there is a knack to stuffing them and getting the best out of them. Because of this I think you are doing the right thing is having a two-part nappy/wrap system as well as possibly a few pocket nappies to try.
Have a look on my nappy blog to see the views of others on pocket nappies - I think overall they get mixed reviews.
Congratulations and good luck with the birth. Lucky you!!

archiespregnantmummy · 20/07/2007 21:31

When I first tried pockets and AIOs I thought exactly like maisiemog, but now I LOOOOVE them.
So quick to dry and so simple, we don't use anything else these days (although we are thinking of prefolds for baby [wink[), also they come in so many cute designs and colurs (even prints!).

And there is so much you can use to stuff with, I personally prefer bamboo or hemp but some people use prefolds or microfiber.

Hope you find nappies that suit you and baby and good luck.
