So my 10yo DS wants to be able to go to local park and town with friends but me and his dad feel he is too young and immature. He is still in primary school. How old is the normal age nowadays for kids to be out and about unsupervised? Thanks.

Very dependent upon the particular locality. Some people live next door to a park and it is virtually an extension of their garden, for others it might involve a long walk or even public transport.
Generally you have to build it up though one step at a time.
So, our local park is by our local High Street shopping centre, so my dc started by staying there whilst I fetched something from the shop, or similar, so gradually built up to going on their own.
In terms of the shops, they started by going to pay at the till whilst I was near by, then moved to going in to a shop whilst I waited outside, then to us all being in the High Street / shopping Centre, and agreeing to meet back at a set point at a set time, etc., so they were used to being in the shops before setting off to spend time their on their own.

It is good to be used to being out and about without parents for short amounts of time before they go to secondary.
However, it will depend on all sorts of specifics about locality.
