Toddler and newborn. Will I need a double pushchair?

My Dd will be 20 months when my baby is born. She is still in her pushchair if we are out and about for long periods. Has anyone else done this without a double? I am a bit reluctant to buy one due to the expense and the fact she probably won't want to be in one for long. Any advice would be appreciated

Had a 20 month gap and invaluable. Ds could manage buggy board a bit but didn't have balance or patience for it all the time. He's 28 months now and for short trips he walks and I push baby but for a trip to the shops or longer journey still has double. It really does depend how much you walk places and how could your older ones walking is.

We went for mountain buggy duet as narrow for through doors with them side by side and could have carry cot and seat when baby was tiny

23 month gap between mine and I say 100 % yes.

A sling and a buggy board worked with my 2 with a much bigger aged gap.

I had the same age gap. If they are both in a grim mood you can put them in the buggy and march away.

Later on, when they were older and back to the single, there was at least one occasion of strapping a tantrumming DS1 into the buggy and carrying the baby home.

I agree with a sling too - ours was invaluable.

There were just times when we were all overtired and I would feel touched out and I could strap them in and have a brisk walk in the fresh air and we would all feel better.

DS1 used to generally hop and out as required but it was always good to have the option of somewhere to 'put' them both when needed.

24 month gap, had P & T double buggy from first one. Really useful for carrying shopping etc and also enabled longer walking trips. Only got rid when they were 5 & 3.

Your options are:
Use a carrier with baby and keep toddler in pushchair for as long as possible then buy a buggy board and put baby in pushchair.
Buy a double.

Up to you really. I had a 15 month gap between my first two so bought a double then DC3 was born when DC2 was 14 months old so I still continued using the double until Dc1 was 3, so for approx six months I put DC3 in a sling.

I have a 2 year age gap.

I've tried pram + buggy board, worked beautifully for a few trip to the park. Stepped into a shop and it all went to pot as two year old 'ran away' as soon as I slightly turned away to pick something off the shelf!

Tried sling and buggy. Again it wass fine whole they are both contained, but after playing in the park, toddler went manic and I really struggled to wrestle them back into the chair with a sling on.

I am considering a double, but they look so awkward! How do you get through doors? Or round small shop aisles?

Holy shit, I’ve just got home from a hot and stressful single buggy trip with baby and nearly three old and NEVER AGAIN.

Nearly three year old got hot, exhausted and emotional and the whole thing took fucking ages. Eventually solved by pulling her on her scooter, while pushing DS in the buggy. My back may never recover.

I thought of this thread and had to come and update.

(And before anyone says it, maybe she shouldn’t need a buggy at this age, but she does, so there we are).

Oh and DP, who spends more time alone with the two of them than me, for various complicated reasons, tried to persuade me to take double buggy and I wouldn’t.

Nearly 20 month gap, and had a Second hand city mini double. Didn’t use it loads but when I did I was so glad of it.
Went single buggy and sling once my youngest was big enough for the pushchair bit of single pram when on long walks. Always meant to buy a buggy board but never got round to it.
Sold the double after a year for £50 less than we paid.

I did realise that I definitely still need a pushchair for DS (26 months) when I took him out on his scooter for a very short journey and he refused to cooperate! It was too far to carry him home so I had to bribe him with the promise of tv when we got there if he let me pull him on his scooter (he agreed thank god!)

Physically they can walk/scoot/use buggy board but whether or not they choose to is another matter 😬
