Alcohol for teething... opinions?

My 6 month old is teething BAD. Hardly sleeping at night and all the other horrible symptoms that come with it.

I went to Tesco and the lady serving told me she SWEARS on whisky on the gums for it. I have heard of it before, but I've done a google and I can see it is not recommended...

What's your honest opinions? I'm not sure if it's worth the risk but my LO is really suffering, she's exhausted and no medication seems to be working Sad

Give lo a fag too. Might as well do it properly.

God no!! Although I have a memory that my DM used to do this, I definitely remember she used to dip my dummy in Martini Bianco Grin joking aside OP definitely not, I just used to give my DD some Calpol.

My barmy grandmother used to give us a nip of avocaat (sp?) when we were little. She also used to put butter on burns, keys down your back if you had a nosebleed, and was very superstitious.

She was a nurse during WW2 and we used to joke that she probably killed more British soldiers than the Germans (we were horribly rude kids but grandpa egged us on!).

Brandy on the gums, and soothers dipped in the stuff are very very outdated techniques.
Fine for the 50’s not so for past 1980.

meatfartalert · 18/05/2019 19:06

ashton and parsons powders combined with calpol/ baby nurofen worked for ds. teething toys stored in rotation in the fridge

I did used to put a bit of brandy on my finger tip and rub it on the gums that was advised from my mother in law .. god rest her soul ... this was 18 years ago .:

It seem to work and didn't harm

She must have grown up near where i did . The village doctor recommended whisky for everything Grin i didnt try it with my own children as i thought it probably wasnt safe.

Just use Anbesol - it's 98% ethanol anyway. Failing that - I heard laudanum is good.
