Hi so my son is 3 and has really bad teeth. I feel like i have failed him and all people can see when they look at him is how bad his teeth are im worried when he starts school he will get bullied for it as everyones always commenting on how bad his teeth are. When i visited the dentist she said it was due to him sleeping with a bottle of milk in night which i stopped straightaway. But his teeth just seem to have gone really bad i have to force him to brush. Just feeling so bad. He even has started to look in the mirror and says how his teeth are dirty. Dentist has said as a dentist she recommends that we get teeth removed but as a mother she doesnt which has put me in doubt. Also his adult teeth could take years to come through as his only 3.

Is it all his teeth or some in particular? Did you have antibiotics while pregnant at all?

Mevy · 18/05/2019 19:24

Its some teeth well all hos front teeth i cant remember particullary but all i remember was that i went through alot such as blood clots gestional diabetes heart problems all whilst pregnant so it is possible in that time that i did have antibiotics. But just feel so sad when people say awww does he eat to many sweets i get so mad.

Did they put any fluoride paint on them to help prevent further deterioration? Did they make any other suggestions to help?

Had he gone to the dentist before? Mine went from 6 months old. I wonder if he has underlying problems with the enamel on his teeth which makes them more prone to decay

You havent failed op Flowers

If he slept with a bottle of milk that's a classic cause of decay on his front teeth. But you've stopped that now and that's all that matters, you can't change the past only prevent anything else.

Make sure you are brushing his teeth for him, almost every 3 year old needs force to brush their teeth! And obviously be really careful with his diet, no sugar outside of mealtimes. If the older 2 have perfect teeth then you obviously know what you are doing.

Is he getting any pain? Obviously I don't know the severity but if he's not having pain, and you make sure you are keeping these teeth really clean, I would try to hold onto the teeth at least for a year or two.

But worse case scenario, lots of children are missing teeth and by the time he goes to school they could be feasibly missing due to falling out naturally and children eat fine without teeth. So don't worry about it

@dementedpixie thanks for your reply nothing eles was offered although i did read up on flouride paint and wondered why he wasnt offered that but to be honest the dentist just about gets to look at his teeth even though we have been taking him since a young age he gets really hysterical at the dentist so she cant do much.
@bluecornishpixie he is starting to compain saying all the time that his teeth are hurting 😞 but i think i need to look at it as you advised and put it off for aslong as i can then if need be have them taken out but at that age they most likely fall out anyway so he wont feel it as much. Its just sad to see when he looks in mirror and says mummy my teeth are dirty.
Thanks for taking time out to reply im new to the page so wasnt expecting a response dont know how it works.

I work in a nursery and have known quite a few children that age have teeth removed. They cope well. The other children don't take much notice either.
