Disposable changing mats

I have a changing bag which has a changing mat but I am getting fed up of lugging it around. DS is now 15 months and I tend to have a little rucksack for his lunch and snacks as well as the changing bag.

I'm thinking of getting a larger rucksack for everything. Putting his changing mat in the same rucksack as his food seems a bit off as the rucksacks I have seen don't have separate compartments.

Has anyone used disposable mats such as the pampers ones. I was thinking of sticking that on the table but not sure how comfy it would be for him?

Muslin in a zip lock bag? Then it can be washed, will fold up small and can be separated from snacks etc?

I may well be doing parenting wrong but at 15 months I've rarely had to change nappies out and about with any of mine and if I do they just get changed on whatever surface is available, I definitely don't lug changing bags or mats around anyway, just a small rucksack.

Ikea do a thin fabric waterproof changing mat- you could buy two and wash one/use one.

I wouldn’t use disposables- it’s unnecessary waste

Where are you going that there are no toilets/baby changing facilities?

Barbarafromblackpool · 17/05/2019 21:30

I had a disposable changing mat that I kept reusing for DC1, then used a large Muslim folded over for DC2. Don’t bother with anything now.

ArgyMargy · 17/05/2019 21:39

@Barbarafromblackpool how did you carry the large Muslim around?

ArgyMargy · 17/05/2019 21:40

Please don't add yet more crap to the landfill with disposable changing mats.

By 15 months I was lying them on anything!

Please dont use disposables, what a waste.

Puppy pads are great for if it’s a messy nappy. I just take a couple of nappies, an almost used packet of wipes, a couple of nappy bags (there’s nothing worse than having to carry a stinky nappy miles when you’ve forgotten the bags) and a puppy pad.
I keep reusing the puppy pad until it’s gets wet or dirty. I just put the changing stuff in a ziplock freezer bag in the main bag with everything else.

I have a changing mat from cheeky wipes, folds up pretty small and easily chucked in washing machine if needed. It gets used as a towel these days when we go to the splash park /seaside

I had a thin changing mat which I would put in a zip up bag in the big bag. Disposable mats are expensive and a bit shit for the environment.

That.

We've got a foldable changing mat, about a tenner from Amazon. Everyone I know has the same one! Surely his food is in containers so it doesn't really matter? My kid licks pram wheels so his changing mat being near a rice cake is the least of my worries.
