DD6 chewing things.

Our DD has always been a real mouthy/chewy child, as a toddler she would crawl under supermarket shelves to pull out things to chew on, would literally pick up anything and everything and put it in her mouth.

She mostly grew out of it but it has started again in a slightly different way. Her school mates are mostly older than her and starting to lose their teeth, she has been chewing on things and pulling on them to try to loosen one - her reason - 'she wants to lose a tooth so the tooth fairy will bring her money' (she actually has about $10 in her money box at the moment so I think it's the novelty not the actual money).

She is chewing on her wooden bed, yesterday the school pool type fencing and apparently other things at school as well, pencils (including other children's pencils) etc.

She is otherwise a bright but distracted child who can focus on some tasks but has trouble remaining on task much of the time, she seems happy at school, has friends etc. She can be pretty naughty at home in terms of throwing tantrums but is generally a kind, caring and happy, if a little full on, child.

Has anyone else had this with their child, did they grow out of it? TBH it is only because the school has mentioned it that it has bothered me.

Can you buy her a chew necklace? These have become a lot more popular and you can get some nice designs.

I would arrange a GP appt, could be a mild form of Pica.

@Alicewond- she talking about her daughter, not a dog. Hoping you just misread the post.

A chew necklace is a great idea - I hadn't thought of that, thank you I actually feel like that might be a prefect happy medium - she wont get teased, she wont be annoying people and she will be able to chew all at the same time.

I rang my health nurse, she also suggested a GP visit which I have booked but our GP had no appointments until early June.

Haha, I do have some anti chew spray but I don't think the school would appreciated me spraying all of their things with it, did give me a laugh though.
