We are booked up for end of June! Very excited but also a bit anxious as it's the first time we have been away with DD (14 mo) so... any tips/ things to watch out for/ recommendations?

Anyone been and loved it and anyone been and found it stressful and if so why?

Would love to hear experiences, good or bad so I can be as prepared as possible!

I honestly don’t think a one year old will get much out of Disney. They are too young. They might enjoy the atmosphere & little rides? But really quite young.

Don’t know if you have been or how many are going but I love rides and would be frustrated if just 3 of you and either have to go alone or not at all!

TheresWaldo · 16/05/2019 12:32

Sorry - but that's far too young to get anything at all out of Disney. Too late to cancel? At that age we always went to somewhere sunny with a decent sandy beach/kids pool. Dd didn't even like a basic roundabout til she was a couple of years old. She was also terrified of people dressed up and would scream the place down.

Aww you'll all love it. The atmosphere is always great, plenty of outdoor and indoor shows, plus the parade and the nighttime fireworks.
There are a few rides she won't be able to go on, but I think some of the bigger ones do parent swap? I'm sure if you go on the website it gives you a breakdown of all rides and attractions and height restrictions. There are also a couple of playgrounds.
Have a great time.

We’re going at the start of June with dd 19m and ds 4m before we head on to a Eurocamp.

We’re going purely for DH and I’s benefit Grin- the kids are just tagging along. I’ve looked into what rides dd can get on, and the truth is not many. She might enjoy the parade for about thirty seconds before getting bored, and there’s a few playgrounds about the place, but she’s still too young to get excited about meeting characters and stuff.

Luckily we’re going with my pregnant sister and bil, so we can take it in turns going on the proper rides while someone chills with the pram. If it was just DH and I going I’m not sure how much value we’d get out of the trip.

Hollowvictory · 16/05/2019 12:44

You will enjoy it.
Baby wont care where he is.
Use baby switch for rides.
Book restaurants in advance

Hollowvictory · 16/05/2019 12:45

Oh and use fast pass

Lindy2 · 16/05/2019 12:47

There will be plenty of children that age there.
I loved Disney as much as my kids so I'm sure you'll all have a great time.
There's lots of little rides that your DD will enjoy as well as the colour, music and general atmosphere at the shows.
Obviously take a buggy. Also calpol just in case. Medicines can only be bought at phamacies in France so basic stuff like calpol, adult paracetamol are harder to get hold of there as it involves getting a train to the shopping centre.
Have a great time!

Sorry meant to say we are going with my sister and her daughter who is 9! Yes too late to cancel, my DH booked as a surprise for us.

Dont cancel it will be great! Why would you cancel?! Go and have a great time! You'll all enj it and can go again when baby is oldef

Starlive23 · 16/05/2019 13:09

Thanks so much for replies! Yes I know DD is young, im not too concerned with her getting on rides etc but nice to know there might be some small ones she could go on.

My sister being there will be a bonus as it's another pair of hands.

We are going to Alton Towers this weekend so I'm hoping it might be a bit of a test run as to how she will be!

@Hollowvictory many thanks, wasn't sure if the fast pass would be worth it but will look into it!

Fastpasses are free. Essential if you don't want to spend all day queuing

purpleboy · 16/05/2019 13:24

Are you staying in a Disney hotel?

TheCraicDealer · 16/05/2019 13:30

If you plan it well and go prepared it'll still be plenty of fun, I don't know why you'd cancel. If you only did things so kids got the most out of them you wouldn't go out much during the baby years, would you?

As your DD is under two her air fare and park tickets will be free, so as long as you have people who are happy to look after her whilst you and DH go on the occasional ride together it will still be great. Disney is as much about the atmosphere, theming, and food as it is about the rides!

babysharkah · 16/05/2019 13:43

I'm not exactly sure what she'll be able to do there. If you love it, great, bring her along for the ride but it's a whole lot of queuing for not much for a 14 month old.

Starlive23 · 16/05/2019 13:58

Yes totally agree. Luckily my DSis isn't much of an adrenaline junkie and is happy to each DD if we did want to go on the occasional ride, but it's more about the actual atmosphere and taking DD on a family trip.

TBH it's the only chance we will get in the next few years for a family holiday as DSis is quite poorly and we want to go while she's still able to walk around without pain etc

I'm glad lots of people have had good experiences! I'm obviously anticipating a bit of stress insofar as toddlers can have tantrums any time, but hopefully it will be really memorable, and it's something I hope me and DH can look back on fondly.

We were there June last year. A couple of days it was very hot... We had water bottles and there were places to refill them. The shows were good... We really enjoyed Mickey the Magician and the Princess Dancing one. The parade was great.

Starlive23 · 17/05/2019 11:11

We aren't really going to be queuing for lots of adult rides at all, maybe DH will go on one or two but I'm not fussed,I just want to take DD on any baby rides she can go on and enjoy the atmosphere and (hopefully!) the weather being nice
