Leaking nappies at night - any advice?

My dd is nearly 2 1/2 and in a bed (new baby due to arrive in next few weeks) and her overnight nappies keep leaking at the moment. It's driving me mad as it's such a hassle changing the sheets every day plus the waterproof mattress cover won't go in the tumble dryer and takes a long time to dry. This morning in fact she had got down between the mattress and the bedrail and so her nappy had leaked slightly down the side of the mattress and soaked through to the mattress itself (as undersheet is only waterproof on the top).

She's not potty trained (not that I suppose that's relevant as she wouldn't be dry at night anyway). We used to use cloth nappies but she's really outgrown these and I'm not sure they were any less likely to leak - they also sometimes leaked at night(used motherease and had to put a prefold in as booster and v. bulky, wraps barely fitted round and looked v. uncomfortable). I'm now using Moltex disposables and have always thought they were better for not leaking than the odd supermarket brand nappy that I've used when I ran out. But maybe she's outgrowing this size (sure she's within weight range) - perhaps I should buy the next size up?

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Sometimes definitely think nappy is leaking as just too full, but other times not so sure and may be more to do with the amount she fidgets around in bed (gets into all sorts of weird and wonderful positions).

we had a leakage problem and switched from the expensive huggees size 5 into safeways/boots own brand size 5. These are both a bit bigger and have solved our leak problem

We use prefolds with a booster pad and pro wrap outers. The boosters are like a large towelling sanitary towel and seem to do the trick. I got them from thenappylady.co.uk. They do occasionally leak but not very often. The advisors at thenappylady.co.uk will give excellent advice if you like (I don't work for them - just a satisfied customer!)

Thanks for the advice Katzguk and Vivie. Maybe I do just need to buy larger size nappies?

I have asked the nappylady for advice in the past when dd was about 1 and night-time nappies started leaking then - she suggested an extra booster pad between nappy and wrap and I also bought some hemp boosters, then switched to prefolds as boosters. That worked ok until a little while back. However, right now I really don't want to spend more on cloth nappies as we have stopped using them (put them aside for next baby) - the motherease are now too small for her and I really don't want to buy anything different. Think dd's time in nappies is nearing an end now (she's probably ready to potty train right now, but am having to put it off due to imminent arrival of new baby). So I just need a solution to see me through the next couple of months.

Distracted - DS2s nappies started leaking at about 18 months - he's very wriggly and I think they leaked at the sides. We switched him into 'pull up' type nappies over night and it seemed to work. Pampers Easy-Ups were best, Huggies next, Boots own didn't work for us....

We started using the Pullups type nappies at about this stage for DS1 at night times - for some reason they seemed to contain all his nighttime wee. I think they are Pampers - suit us fine

It was always larger nappies we needed when dd started to leak at night. Also, not much to drink after the last meal time helps.

Another vote for Pampers Pull Ups. DD is nearly 3 and a half, still in a nappy at night time and they have never, ever leaked. They come in a really good range of sizes too.

I really hadn't thought about pullups for some reason! Thanks v. much for the advice, think I will also get the larger size Moltex next time I order (as have had a few strange daytime leaks too where nappy not full but leaked at side).

Thanks all for that advice.
