In his crib. I slept two hours last night and the night before. He has been diagnosed With milk allergy and reflux and I'm not sure if this what normal healthy babies do or it's his reflux?

How do I make it stop! Thank you!

Unfortunately I think it’s very normal. My DD sounded like a farmyard animal in her sleep when tiny and she doesn’t have reflux or any allergies. She’s now eight weeks old and still makes the occasional noise, but is much quieter now. They do grow out of it!

It is horrible though, I remember her noises keeping me awake for hours when she was tiny. I’d recommend either ear plugs or a white noise machine. I found they drowned out the worst of the farmyard noises whilst still allowing me to hear her crying.

Another vote for normal I’m afraid, my DD has reflux and honestly between her grunting noises and my husband snoring it was like trying to sleep in the middle of Jurassic fucking Park.

She’s 6 months now and although we’re having whole other sleep issues now I can tell you that the grunting did eventually stop and I can’t even remember when exactly so it must have been at least a couple of months ago. Don’t know if that helps or not, sorry if it doesn’t!!

I hope it's more like eight weeks than eight months. I can't function with him and a toddler today.

Mine was the same and I am a very light sleeper. Eventually I would move into the guest room between feeds to get some rest. Dh stayed in the room with the baby.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 13/05/2019 11:03

Also yes to the white noise machine. We did that too and it worked well.

Chippychipsforme · 13/05/2019 13:14

Foam ear plugs. You can still hear through them but they reduce some of the noise.

Tipsylizard · 13/05/2019 15:12

Ah yes - I remember how ridiculously noisy new borns are. Totally normal and it does pass in a few weeks. Ear plugs are your friend - if your baby is next to you - you will hear them when they wake up for a feed. It is hard having a baby and a toddler but as soon as they sleep a bit better- you can strap them into a sling and off you go. Smile

Congratulations.

modgepodge · 13/05/2019 15:31

Yep my 6 week old is the same. Ear plugs are a godsend. They block out the grunting and the low level, doesn’t need a response whinging, but when she properly wakes up and cries I hear it just fine. I feel like she is a bit better than she was so I’m hoping it will stop completely soon.

I’ve got friends who have ignored the 6 months in their room thing specifically cos they couldn’t cope with the grunting!

Dalesgirl16 · 13/05/2019 21:07

I was thinking that last night about ignoring the six months in the room! I'm lying in bed and he is grunting away. He sounds congested which is s reflux symptom but the snufflebabe was clear this evening. I don't know, the baby stage is so hard! I have the white noise on quite loud too! Hope I can hear my toddler tomorrow!

Both my DS were grunting too. It lasted until a couple of months. For us I think it was their digestive system still trying to mature so when their tummy's were working away it would make them uncomfortable. Once they did a poo there was no more grunting. Grin

mutantninja · 13/05/2019 22:11

I'd say reflux, having had a baby with silent reflux and milk allergy, they are uncomfortable. There are little wedge pillows you can get, they go under the mattress that give them a slight lift, helps enormously.

Anyat212 · 13/05/2019 22:31

My 5 week LG is exactly the same OP - constantly grunting away in her sleep. I had no idea what hit me when I brought her home from hospital, the amount of sit ups I’ve done these past few weeks just to check she’s okay is crazy!!

I’m used to her noises now so don’t really have any advice but just wanted to add another voice of it being normal!

Congrats btw Flowers

I was struggling with this with my DS2 only a few weeks ago. Very normal but who cares when you're not sleeping whilst they are! Definitely get earplugs as it does help. My DS doesn't have reflux but he's 11 weeks now and very quiet at night other than breathing and the odd shuffle/fidget/moan. Nothing compared with the farm noises he was making a few weeks ago.

If it doesn't improve though don't feel bad about putting him in his own room. I put DS1 in his own room at 11 weeks as he was too big for the Moses basket and was sleeping through. SIDS is very rare in a term baby, living in a non smoking household. The risk gets even lower after they turn 2 months.

Baloonphobia · 13/05/2019 22:38

Dd was the same. We evicted her at 5 months.

spherisorb · 13/05/2019 23:41

Mine stopped at 12 weeks. It was awful, he’s now 7 months and it seems like a distant memory.

Celebelly · 13/05/2019 23:43

My DD did this for first eight weeks or so. She's 13 weeks now and blessedly mostly silent now! I think it was just her learning how to poop as well as some reflux. It was really loud!

Dalesgirl16 · 14/05/2019 20:51

I hope it doesn't go on for months! I'm dreading tonight! I have bought ear plugs and bought some sominex tablets as I'm desperate to sleep.
