How many oz do you manage to pump?

I’ve been pumping for over a week, sometimes I will get 0.5oz sometimes I’ll 1.5oz at the most. I don’t feel this is enough. I do pump around 3-4 times a day. I’m just trying to work out an average

90 mls from one boob on average when full

Middle of the night - 5oz from both together
Middle of the day - haven’t tried recently, but I’d suspect around 3oz from both.

How old is the baby and for what reason are you pumping?

Is it Inbetween feeds to improve your supply?

It varies so much from person to person.

I get the best results when I'm pumping whilst feeding. Look into a Hakka pump. Works wonders for me without much effort.

Queenofmyprinces I am pumping as I pump & bottle feed. I’m trying to do 50/50 BM & Formula.

The most I used to get out in a day was 3oz. I gave up pumping in the end, it would take me 3 days to get a decent feed!

MoreSlidingDoors · 13/05/2019 08:36

3-4 times a day won’t be enough to maintain/increase supply.

I exclusively expressed for DD. Had to do it every 3-4 hours day and night and would get 6-8oz per side (double pump).

Ate shedloads of oats and loads of water.

DogHairEverywhere · 13/05/2019 09:45

I found that if i used an electric pump, I'd get much more than a manual one. Also, i pumped when feeding, so baby on one side, pump on the other.

DogHairEverywhere · 13/05/2019 09:49

Why are you trying to do 50:50 bm:ff?
Any formula you feed, means that you miss a natural feed, which will reduce your output. The more you feed, the more you make. Your body will respond to how much you feed your baby and will make just enough. If you are missing feeds (because you are ff), then your body will make less milk, so there will be less to express.

I exclusively pumped for 10 weeks. About 70-100ml per breast after the first six weeks or so. But that took pumping every three hours round the clock.

Baby is back at breast full time now and my supply has increased as a result so I get about 150ml from good boob and about 100 from the other in my pump before bed (baby goes down at 8 so I pump about 10.30 before I go to sleep so I don't get as engorged overnight).

You need to be super relaxed & ideally looking at or close to baby to get a decent amount pumping ime. The more you think about it and worry the less you will get - it's like the milk stubbornly refuses to come out. Definitely need that oxytocin let down reflex. When relaxed I could fill at 9oz bottle / when stressed or thinking about it zilch. Easier said than done of course. Good luck!

Are you bf at all? If not it is important you pump overnight as well as by day as this is key for milk production.

I can only pump around 3oz but that’s pumping in evening which isn’t best time to pump.

Countingchickens · 14/05/2019 03:57

I'm struggling with my BF - first time feeding I had an awful latch and I bled. I've been in pain and my nipple was infected, which seems to almost be gone now. I've been expressing from this side, which is my good side and I get around 40-60mls. My healthy side is different and I only get 20-30mls. She gets on my breast 1-2 times a day but its getting really painful when she latches because she goes on there only. There's nothing wrong with how she goes on and I'm seeking support for this issue. I want to exclusively BF but my baby is constantly hungry so she is also on formula. You are not alone and I increased my supply to this using lactation cookies which although expensive have been worth it for me. That and pumping as often as possible.

Keep going OP and keep pumping as often as possible, I hope to reduce the formula back to maintain her again.

Is baby only a week old. 1/2 to An ounce is normal.

By the time dd was 6 weeks old I was up to about 3 ounces per breast.

I pumped after every feed to increase supply and have milk for the Sns at the next feeding. session.
