Is it normal for newborn to throw up after feeding.

My ds is 4 weeks old and throws up after most feeds. He's formula fed now but was sicky even when I was breastfeeding. Just wondering if this is normal? He's not unhappy or uncomfortable in any way and feeds well. Has anyone else experienced this with their lo?

My youngest did. It was mostly due to trapped wind and drinking more than his tummy could hold. Once we got the wind issue sorted, he wasn't too bad. He was never bothered by it though, if he had been I would have gone to GP

@ShutTheFridgeUp thanks for the reply. I think my ds is the same. He will eat and eat, which is the reason I had to give up breastfeeding. I had no nipples left! He's gaining a pound a week and he's content 90% of the time so that's the main thing.

Yes, I think all babies do it. It's why mums go round with a muslin on their shoulders!

@onalongsabbatical my dd barely threw up so I was a little surprised with how often my ds did it. I think some babies must be more sicky than others.

Yes, I'm sure that's true. I guess it's the greedier ones - tummies too full. But really normal. He sounds like he's doing really well!

Yes. I was always amazed at the amount of sick that could come up. Always seemed far more than their stomachs could possibly hold!

Mine is 6 months and still sick loads. I’d really hoped that introducing solids would help but so far all we’ve achieved is changing the colour and texture of her sick.

Apparently a lot of babies grow out of it around 4 months as that’s when the little flap thing that keeps food in their tummies starts to get stronger, hopefully that’ll be the case for you if it even lasts that long.

My first did. She lived in a rotation of plain white onesies for MONTHS as a result. Such a pain.

She also had colic too (connected?).

Second NEVER (and no colic...).
