Pram help: when to move to seated?

I have a 3.5 month old in a bugaboo bed pram. DS is incredibly long, he's already in 6-9month baby grows, last time I measured he was 27 inches.

He has decent head control, not sitting himself yet of course but he loves being in a seated position on my knee. He's looking very long for the carry cot, wondering when everyone thinks I could move him safely into the normal seated pram?

I'm sure lots of people will say they waited until the full six months recommended but I moved both mine at about 4 months. Both were straining to do sit ups as they wanted to be upright and they were much happier for it. I started off reclined x

Ah that's good to know! Were they facing in towards you?

4 months also. Dd was touching the top and bottom of the carry cot. She was well strapped in, and starting to sit up herself by then (as in she could sit up with mild support) and facing me.

I moved DD at 4.5 months. If you pop him in the seated one it'll be pretty clear whether he's comfortable/safe in it. I found a good foot muff made the difference between DD looking like she was struggling to stay upright and looking secure.

Definitely facing towards you Smile

I’ve just moved my four month old too. We can face front or back with our pram but have him facing us at the moment. He much prefers it to the bassinet. If you think he is ready, he probably is!

Oh great this has really helped thanks! Another silly question... it was quite warm today and DS was warm in the carry cot, would I need a footmuff in the summer?

Well we couldn't fit our pram top in the car if we had both children with us :o

If we were going to be out all day and didn't want him in the car seat for so long we just used the seat. It does a proper lie flat though, it's not one of these moulded ones that tips back. So he went in it for the first time at 8 days old. DS1 had a similar pushchair and he had it semireclined (rather than flat) for the first time around 4 months IIRC. DS2 was younger because DH kept doing it even though he was fine.

BertieBotts · 12/05/2019 15:04

No definitely no footmuff in summer. You can get seat liners if you want it to be comfy/easily washable though.

Thank you! I'll take a look. You've all been really helpful

To confirm - this is the seat fabric I need right?

I waited until 6 months as recommended. Ds fitted in the carrycot until he was 6 months so I preferred to wait

I was going to say if it was the bugaboo Cam or one of the others with the "bucket" style seat it's best to reduce the depth of the bucket using a folded towel or similar. From memory the bee seat is suitable from birth anyway?

Stylemebabyonemoretime · 12/05/2019 15:20

Before 3 months because DD was super long and nolonger fitted in the carry cot.
