Aptamil 1 not dissolving?

Wondering if anyone has had the same problem.

I've been feeding DS Aptamil 1 for the last 4 weeks since he was born. The last few days he has been quite unsettled and seems to be struggling with trapped wind so we've been giving him infacol (not sure if it's helping to far).

He has been straining and bunching up his legs loads but last night was the worst. He isn't crying but grunting loads and seems uncomfortable.

Anyway I was washing his bottles and I noticed tiny white lumps had coated the inside of the bottles so I'm wondering if the Aptamil powder isn't dissolving properly??

I make it according to the instructions but I'm worried it's causing his discomfort! Last night he was only drinking around half his normal amount at each feed and it was a struggle.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds like he has trapped wind. Try cycling his legs, then bring them up to his tummy and rubbing his tummy softly in circles and try to wind him for longer. If it doesn’t come out as a burp it should go the other way.

It’s more than likely to be either he’s not getting all his wind up or he’s taking too much air in through the bottle rather than it being the formula.

Infacol is good for wind but bad because it constipates. Try colic drops like dentinox they may work better. We’ve found they work well.

Thanks very much. I'll try the dentinox and see if it makes a difference. He has a bad enough tongue tie too so they told me at the hospital that he may end up taking in more air during feeding anyway.

My baby hated infacol, it actually the only night he cried so much after I gave him them. I binned it in the morning and went back to Dentinox colic drops. So much better, still had abit wind but not as bad. I sometimes alternated with gripe water so he doesn’t get used to it.

It went away at 12 weeks plus.

I had same prob with Aptamil. They recently changed their ingredients there have been other threads on this. I moved to Hipp organic no problems now. Cheaper too!

I'm not sure what it is now. DS was feeding every 4 hours last week and now he's gone back to 2-3 hours and is very unsettled and grunting loads between feeds so we're getting no sleep at all!

He's getting up plenty of wind with the infacol and he's not constipated so I'm wondering if maybe it's silent reflux?? He's wriggling around as if he's full of wind all the time but he isn't 😭

We had the exact same issue with one tub of Aptamil, it also coincided with what we believed to be 'grunting baby syndrome' (cant find the other name for it which I think had 'abdominal' in it) basically our baby was learning to go toilet effectively, i.e engaging the right muscles at the right time and during this process seemed unsettled, bringing legs up, straining and grunting etc.

It passed pretty quickly although I also swapped to Aldi formula and threw the Aptamil that was not mixing so its hard to say whether it caused the problem or they they just coincided.

I spoke to the public health nurse and she reckons it is grunting baby syndrome. She said baby is perfectly happy and sleeping no problem but that it's going to make sleeping for us hard!

Here's hoping it doesn't last long!
