I was just wondering if anyone would share their experiencing at their toddlers 2 year developmental check. I am taking my son to his soon.

I know we will receive a questionnaire before hand to complete but I am just wondering what they actually asses within the appointment.

One of the ladies said her daughter was referred to SS as she couldn't thread a bit of cotton into a cotton reel and she couldn't say two joined words like bye daddy or hello daddy , this sounds a bit dramatic so just wondering of anyone's experiences so I know what to expect.

Thanks in advance

I have twins and the HV came to my house for it and brought a nursery nurse.

I had a few questionnaires about their behaviour, how did they interact with each other and with other kids, how did they interact with me and one where I ticked which words they could say.

While I was doing that the nursery nurse asked them about numbers, colours, asked them to draw certain shapes, kick a ball, catch a ball, asked them to pick out animals from their own books, what sounds did the animals make. Watched them playing on their own and together.

Nursery nurse came out for DD. She didn’t assess DD formally but she was playing in the room and joining in the conversation. The nursery nurse asked her a couple of questions about shapes and colours but DD had started to talk about them earlier so I think she was just checking to see if she knew the shapes or if it was just fluke.

Nursery nurse asked about sleep because I had previously asked for help with this and discussed potty training but DD was dry during the day and in kickers at this point.

I don’t believe a family was referred to SS for speech and other delays. Doctor and SaLT yes but not SS.

'One of the ladies' was fibbing.
Even if there were concerns about the child's development, they would be referring to a Paediatrician not Social Care. Hmm

backforgood that's exactly what I thought. I didn't think SS would be involved for this sort of situation.

She maybe just got the wrong body when talking about it, but it sounded extreme and I just wanted to check with people who knew a bit more, so thanks for info on that.
